If you were to recommend a hockey box to someone from this year or last year, something that wasn't one pack per box, but was a solid mid-range product that would be fun to open, what would you say? Upper Deck? Panini? Black Diamond? Titanium? Contenders?
Would love to hear some feedback/recommendations. Thanks in advance!

UD Series 1 or 2 is a relatively inexpensive break. If you're looking for auto's then it isn't the way to go, but it has the best rookies and is full of good insert subsets. The rookies hold value better than any other subset.

I've personally had incredible luck breaking Panini products. But like the other posts said, if you're looking for a cheap rookie set then UD Series 1 or 2 is the way to go; don't expect autographs.

Contenders or my favorite was Panini's Rookie Anthology. 5 hits including the box topper. This is a beauty of a product.

I'd recommend Elite - decent value and fun to open. Contenders is good too, but some boxes have only autographs (and a number of redemptions) and no memorabilia, so if you for sure want a combination of both then I'd go for Elite.
Personally, I found this to be a down year for Upper Deck products. I actually think the best value these days is in 2010-11 products. I've bought a few boxes of 2010-11 Pinnacle (not 2011-12 Pinnacle - that was not a good product in my mind) lately for about $40 each and more often than not get a better return on investment from each of those than I often do in boxes that cost twice as much now. |
