Default 1977-79 Sportscaster Cards

Hey guys. I just found a huge lot of sportscaster cards that I forgot my dad gave to me. It looks like a pretty full set from 77-79. Are there any hockey cards I should be looking for outside of the Gretzky card (which I found)?

Any info is greatly appreciated. I usually deal with comics and haven't touched cards in about 15 years.

Got it and it looks to be in great condition. After I get through this set I will post a pic to see if its worth grading. I don't see any flaws, but this isn't a comic book so I'm not confident in my card grading

Pretty good way to tell if your card will get a high grade or not will be in the corners. Make sure they are crisp & not bent out of shape in any way whatsoever, and also be sure they are not fraying out. The corners are generally the first thing to screw up a perfect card, followed by the face of the card itself; scratches, excessive handling, discolored, etc.

Thanks. To the best of my knowledge they were rarely if ever handled. Here is a link to a pic I took earlier when I was going through them. I know it's only one angle, but let me know if you see any flaws that stand out to you.

Just went through the lot and pulled the Gretzky, Bird and Magic and a few others. Anybody know where I can find sleeves for these cards? In my limited searching I haven't found anything.

BCW Supplies has some 5x7 toploaders that should fit these. I know that PSA grades them as well.

Also, if you have some extras I'd like to know which you might be willing to sell.

One more question about these cards...

Here is a link the a recent auction for a similar Gretzky that has been graded. SPORTSCASTER Ice Hockey 1977 Wayne Gretzky Rookie 77 10 BGS 9 Mint RARE | eBay

My question is... This card has the BGS grade. I visited Beckett's site last night because I am going to get a few of these cards graded. Beckett's site (Compare Our Services | Beckett.com) says that all cards pre-1980 are vintage graded, which have a different seal than the BGS that is found on this card in the eBay listing.

Any reason for this? How should I proceed when sending to get graded - vintage or regular?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

With that said, should I go the BGS (BVG) or PSA route? The majority of the Sportscaster cards I've seen have been PSA.

Bringing this thread back from the dead...finally got around to subbing the cards I found. The Gretzky came back a PSA 6.

Question is, where is the best place to sell this card? I usually deal with comics and just stick to eBay, but there are a few other sites that specialize in comic sales. When it comes to sports cards, I'm somewhat lost.
