Who are /would you want to be your team's AMNESTY BUYOUTS ?

Each team will be allowed two amnesty buyouts that can be used to terminate contracts after this season and next season. The buyouts will count against the players' overall share in revenues, but not the team's salary cap.

So who on your team is over paid and locked in long term ?

It's gotta be bye bye Bryz and his "humongous big" contract in Flyer land after this year. Maybe this will motivate his azz to play like he did for about 3 weeks late last year ? However, with his seemingly fragile psyche, he could be worse because he's worried about the money.

I COMPLETELY disagree with letting Bryz go, but I'll come back to that.


The best bet for us (Philly) would be for Pronger to stay on the LTIR and ride the contract out that way so it doesn't count against our cap, and use the amnesty buyouts for other players. Wouldn't be upset if they used one on Pronger though, if he really wants to retire & then keep him within the organization as a coach of some sort.

Now back to Bryz. Bryz was not the problem, it was the defense. Primarily Kubina, Lilja, and Carla. Two are gone, one is still on the payroll but not as a starter. Given the option, I'd use the amnesty buyouts on Pronger & if I HAD to use the second one, then either Timonen or Briere. Only reason being age & still receiving $6MIL+ a year when they don't play at that caliber anymore.

Bottom line, keep Bryz. Our defensive corps is much stronger now with the three fumbling idiots gone.

He hasn't even played yet haha. Wings need someone to protect the superstars. McCarty was a huge factor in the 4 cups in 11 years. Plus he is only 1.9M..

Wings don't really have bad contracts (go figure haha). It is hard to say who.

I think the Flyers play in their own end was suspect from the forwards on back, especially in the playoffs. Some of that is Lavys attack first system which leads to some beak downs when all they need to do is chip the puck out instead of cycling backward and getting trapped. It also doesn't help that some guys also do a lot of puck watching in their own end.

That being said, Bryz hasn't been worth the mega deal they gave him because he doesn't seem like he cares enough about winning hockey games and I think the rest of the team noticed that as well. He had a lot of games where he looked slow and disinterested after a hot start which is why he got benched for the Winter Classic. He didn't really look like himself until his ridiculous run in March but then he was rather average again for large parts of the playoffs. I don't think he has a lot of support in the room because of his lack of intensity and commitment. I think he got comfortable after the Flyers gave him that big deal. Now that they Flyers can walk away after this year I'm hoping he gets his act together.

Kimmo is in the last year of his deal I believe so it won't be him. If anything they may try to extend him for another year or two at a cheaper price if he plays well this year. Briere I think has this year and next but I'd get out from under Bryz's deal if he doesn't play more like he did last March this year.

I could agree to this. I'll jump on the bandwagon driving Bryz out of town if he doesn't shape up the remainder of this year & start of the next one. I'd still be down for letting Briere go or signing for a new & cheaper yearly contract. I'd also be interested to see them shop him & a draft pick around for a young / mid-aged winger to see time next to Schenn / Coots since first line is a lock with Hartsy, G, and Voracek.

This wont happen though seeing as how we're repaying Savard for him giving up his ability to see light and hear loud noises. I think we're keeping Thomas and hoping for a comeback, even though Tukka will be firmly entrenched as the starter by then

I think the changes in contract length and limitations on yearly fluctuations can be attributed. But overall I think the owners wanted it added for pretty obvious reasons.

I hope not. His cap hit is reasonable. When he retires if his cap hit still comes off the books (not sure off all the new language) I don't see them using the amnesty on him.

Possibly on Volchenkov who has 4 years left.
