Default The Stupidest Rule in the NHL

Can somebody explain to me why playing the puck with your hand off the faceoff is a penalty? This has to be the dumbest rule the NHL has come up with.

I've seen it called at least ten times, many of those against the Maple Leafs. Players have been playing the puck with their hand for decades. Now they decide to change the rule?

Makes no sense, and is just a massive cluster#@#@#@#@ for everybody playing centre.

I thought the rule was you couldn't close your hand over the puck in your own zone...

Yes, new this season. It's supposed to increase offense in games, but all it ends up doing is sending teams to the power play when the opposition has committed no foul.

Was called tonight on the Leafs Mike Brown, and led to Buffalo's first goal.

Seems like it's been tough to adjust to for old school coaches like Randy Carlyle and John Tortorella.

That is a rule, but you also cannot play the puck with your hand in the faceoff circle. I believe Thad the rule, I'll have to check NHL.com to see exactly what it is.

I dont think it should be a penalty but another faceoff either outside the zone or inside the zone, which ever benefits the team that didnt commit it. Pretty much a hand pass...

Cherry was complaining about the new rule on Coaches Corner. Don't see what the big deal is either way but I guess he needed to fill his minutes and couldn't cry about team USA winning the WJCs with college players again this week.

The worst rule in the game is the disallowed goal when the puck is in the goalies glove and the glove is clearly over the line. Where else could the puck be ? I agree sometimes that you can't assume but common sense should prevail when it's obvious like the Lundquist "save" this year against Boston.

Definitely should not get a powerplay for that. Certainly does not endanger anyone and does not disrupt the game at all IMO.
