Lindy Ruff fired as head coach of Buffalo Sabres - ESPN
HUGE mistake by Buffalo. I don't care how slow they started...this guy's track record speaks for itself. As a B's fan this is GREAT news! Some team is going to really benefit from this guy! |

About 3 years too late.
Just a terrible franchise. Then they waive Cody McCormick. One of the few heart and soul guys on that gutless team. Blame it on 4th liner and not the ding dong softies on first 3 lines that do nothing but float every game. Cut them. |

I'm a huge Sabres fan, and have been a big Lindy supporter for years. I agree about the lazy, weak attitude of this team. Ruff's philosophy isn't working with this team, and maybe fresh blood can stir them up. Unfortunately the coach gets the axe, not the GM, who has been under performing since he let Briere and Drury and Campbell walk for pennies on the dollar.

So was Darcy Regier and Tom Galisano (former cheapskate owner.) Bottom line: If the players aren't giving 100% effort, blame the coach. Time for a fresh start for the players and Lindy. Question is, who will replace him?

Ruff always looked lost in the new NHL to me. He really struggled trying to get a competitive power play on the ice which is essential in the modern era.
The bigger issue in Buffalo will be what to do at the deadline this year. Vanek and Miller both only have one year after this season on their contracts and I don't see either resigning. Vanek's value has never been higher and Miller could be a game-changer goalie in the playoffs. So....hit the big reset button or wait another year?

I just don't get why Ruff fell in love with euro soft hockey the past few years.
The new owner refuses to have a team that gets pushed around anymore. Now he needs to find a coach that will go all in to that style of play. Kinda like how Carlyle is doing it in Toronto. Buffalo is a town that likes it grinder/tough players. Not floaters and soft worthless no heart guys that Ruff loved to play in recent seasons. |

Ruff lost his spark and the players obviously did not want to play for him anymore. Terry Pegula was being called a fraud by some fans and newspapers because he would not axe Ruff. The Sabres were booed off the ice after that horrid loss to the Jets. This team needs some new blood.
Regier is not that bad of a GM either. He got Hodgson for Kassian and traded up to get Girgensons. He is a great GM when he gets to do what he wants, which he was unable to under the Golisano era
