Leaf Best of Hockey - Jacques Plante
My name is Ingrid Hardy (waves "hi"), and just wanted to post saying I've done a small number of hand-painted sketch cards for the upcoming Best of Hockey '13 from Leaf Trading Cards. I can't wait to show them, each one is an original, and each card is a different player. Except for Joe Sakic - I did two of him, because he used to play for the Nordiques and that was the only team I ever really followed. (I'm a horse person, to be honest)

I haven't had permission to show any cards yet, but will when allowed to. If you would like, visit my site or blog for a view of some of artwork... The Rabid Horse ArtBlog

Thank you for letting me spew! :p

GAH!!! You did one of the coolest sketches for Dungeon Dolls (the oversized artist proof) that was in the set imho.

Welcome to the boards. We look forward to seeing your hockey creations!

The only sketch I have in my collection is one you made. :D Hope to see your cards some time soon.

You are both so kind! Thank you for the welcome... [img][/img]

I am looking forward to Leaf telling us we can post...!

Well, I just got the email permitting me to show a just few of my Hockey cards. For today I'd like to show the card of Jacques Plante.

I also have four returns, but they are not yet available.

Thank you for looking! :)

Great sketch! Just curious... if this is an unlicensed hockey set, did they give any rules for artists about using the NHL team logos? Are they able to get around the licensing issue with these being sketches? Also, were you able to use any reference images you found, or only ones provided by Leaf?

jedipencil 03-12-2013 03:04 PM

There were not really any constraints, and we could use whatever refs we wanted... I think that as long as references were not copied exactly it was fine. I don't want to speak for others, but I was told my style of work would pose no problem.

Here is my card (pack inserted) of Bobby Orr:

Maurice Richard...: (pack-inserted cards)

look great.

GoJays 03-16-2013 02:05 AM

The Orr looks great, but the other two aren't the greatest. Well, the drawing is fantastic, just the players..:)

Very well done!

Your art looks great, you wouldn't happen to know if Tempy Moore did any for Hockey? Just look at this Clemente...

jedipencil 03-17-2013 09:39 AM

I am not aware of this artist...

This is one of the last I'll show, once the set is released they will all be posted on my website/blog. I enjoyed painting them very much... :o The others include: Alexander Ovechkin, Joe Sakic (2 cards), Sydney Crosby (and I'll likely paint a return of him because I support his concussion awareness thing), Wayne Gretzky, Terry Sawchuck, and others.

Patrick Roy - acrylic paint.

Good thing she put Clemente's name on that...WTF?

bradu 03-19-2013 08:54 PM

Great job! I think I like the Plante best, of the ones you've posted so far.

jrosales 03-19-2013 09:19 PM

These look great! I don't know how you're so good at painting a full-body shot on such a small surface.

My favorite is the Maurice Richard, but they all look awesome!

jedipencil 03-20-2013 08:28 AM

Thank you for looking... :) ... I really did enjoy painting each card.

jedipencil 03-26-2013 11:01 AM

I've been given permission to offer my return sketch/art cards. Two are already painted, and two have yet to be done - those two I'd like to offer them commissioned if anyone is interested.

The first of my completed cards is up for a five day auction, Guy Lafleur.

Thank you for looking!

The LaFleur looks amazing! It looks like a full-sized oil portrait painting.

BostonBruinsFan 03-26-2013 12:14 PM

That explains all the dirty Habs ;-) You may be ejected from Quebec for that.

jedipencil 03-29-2013 11:15 AM

I'm actually a horse person so I'm not sure I understand... but thanks? :p

Habs is a nickname for Montreal Canadiens

haha No worries, mate. Was just giving you a bit of grief. :D

jedipencil 04-08-2013 09:41 AM

Oh, grief? Thanks, I needed that... [img][/img] :D

I have only two returns left, the first two are now spoken for. Maurice Richard is over on ebay, and I've one left after that.

Just curious, what are the art return cards? The Richard and Lafleur painting sketches are awesome! They should have been pack inserted, way better than some I have seen
