Default Leaf Best of Hockey - Jacques Plante
My name is Ingrid Hardy (waves "hi"), and just wanted to post saying I've done a small number of hand-painted sketch cards for the upcoming Best of Hockey '13 from Leaf Trading Cards. I can't wait to show them, each one is an original, and each card is a different player. Except for Joe Sakic - I did two of him, because he used to play for the Nordiques and that was the only team I ever really followed. (I'm a horse person, to be honest)

GAH!!! You did one of the coolest sketches for Dungeon Dolls (the oversized artist proof) that was in the set imho.

Well, I just got the email permitting me to show a just few of my Hockey cards. For today I'd like to show the card of Jacques Plante.

Great sketch! Just curious... if this is an unlicensed hockey set, did they give any rules for artists about using the NHL team logos? Are they able to get around the licensing issue with these being sketches? Also, were you able to use any reference images you found, or only ones provided by Leaf?

There were not really any constraints, and we could use whatever refs we wanted... I think that as long as references were not copied exactly it was fine. I don't want to speak for others, but I was told my style of work would pose no problem.

The Orr looks great, but the other two aren't the greatest. Well, the drawing is fantastic, just the players..

I am not aware of this artist...

This is one of the last I'll show, once the set is released they will all be posted on my website/blog. I enjoyed painting them very much... The others include: Alexander Ovechkin, Joe Sakic (2 cards), Sydney Crosby (and I'll likely paint a return of him because I support his concussion awareness thing), Wayne Gretzky, Terry Sawchuck, and others.

These look great! I don't know how you're so good at painting a full-body shot on such a small surface.

My favorite is the Maurice Richard, but they all look awesome!

I've been given permission to offer my return sketch/art cards. Two are already painted, and two have yet to be done - those two I'd like to offer them commissioned if anyone is interested.

Just curious, what are the art return cards? The Richard and Lafleur painting sketches are awesome! They should have been pack inserted, way better than some I have seen
