Default My Leaf Best of Hockey Artwork

Hello everyone,

As a baseball fan and a fan of old-school card collecting (and, thus, a lurker on these boards), I just wanted to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself. My name is Juan Rosales and I recently contributed some sketch cards to the just-released Best of Hockey set by Leaf (my first official sports set). Although admittedly not a hockey fan (I grew up in Texas, after all), this set was still fun to work on and, having seen works from some of the other artists who worked on this set, I can tell that they had fun too. Here are a few of my works...though not as colorful as some other cards, I put everything I had into these. Thanks for looking!

I love sketch cards! You're very talented. The Brett Hull is awesom. The goalie mask of Grant Fuhr is really cool. Did you do any others?........or just these 5

Thanks for your kind words! I ended up doing a total of 37 and would have done more if I had more time.

Nice, I'll look out for them on ebay. Given the quality, these sketches should sell very well.

That would be great. Hopefully all the artists' work is well-received. I've seen works from some of the other artists on the set and they are mind-blowing.

great work, and very unique...collectors will be able to spot yours immediately. If you don't mind sharing, how much time does the pointillism take?

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. On average, I'd say that one card would take around 3 hours. Of course, it varied. Some of my cards only took around 1.5 hours, while a few took upwards of 5 each. Actually, all of the cards I posted above took at least 4 hours each. However, I love pointillism (stippling) because, to me, it's very relaxing, and those several hours fly by fast because I"m enjoying it.

I've always been good at stippling, whereas other methods (i.e. graphite, markers) I've felt that I've kinda lacked in comparison to other artists. So I mostly just stick with what I feel works

Thank you! This is the first set I've worked on, and there's a bit of self-consciousness in the sense that I hope my work is good enough to be appreciated. It's especially humbling when I see so many other amazing artists who took part in this set (many I am now a fan of).

I'm glad you like the Clarence Campbell!

I didn't create any for the actual release; the AP I have on eBay is the only Howe I created.

Just wanted to let you know I purchased your Milt Schmidt sketch on ebay. I'm a huge Bruins fan and had to have that card. What an amazing job you did!!! Definitely look forward to seeing more of your work.
