From Pens official Facebook page.

"The Pens rank No. 1 in the NHL and No. 2 overall in professional sports in “Fan Relations,” according to ESPN The Magazine’s 2013 Ultimate Team Standings. The magazine’s annual survey of sports fans also ranked the Penguins No. 1 in the NHL and No. 4 in pro sports in “Stadium Experience” at CONSOL Energy Center. THANK YOU!!"

Y! SPORTS

Letang injured. Not what I wanted to hear less than a week before the season starts. Let's hope it's not serious.

Shelly Anderson of the Post Gazette is reporting that it's not believed to be long-term or serious. As long as Rob Rossi isn't reporting it there's a good chance that it's true.

Kristine Letang to IR, so she'll miss at least the first few games. Despres reassigned to WBS, and on a very suprising not, Beau Bennett reassigned to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Must be a cap move.

Bennett is strictly a paper move to get under the cap - he'll be back in time for the opener.

The shocker to me was Maatta making the team - I thought he was a year away.

Don't know why you hate Letang so much. Regardless of his personality, you have to love his great defense he brings the Pens.

I respect her ability and enjoy having her on the Pens. She's always hurt and I question her toughness and work ethic under duress.

Everyone's got their superstitions. A la fleury skating to the corner every time he allows an own goal.

I agree with you on a lot of things, but I have to disagree with you here. Granted, he can be a disaster in his own end sometimes (especially last year in the playoffs) but I'd never question his work ethic or toughness. Check out his workout video (you can find it on youtube) - Crosby is probably the only one on the team who trains harder. And I'd definitely say he's tough (and I'm not talking about picking a fight with Kimmo Timmonen, which he NEVER should have done). Letang has a genuine nasty streak - there were several games last year where he came out on his first shift and hit anything that moved. He looked almost borderline psychotic, and I mean that as a compliment. I love that in a defenseman. And he's about as competitive as you can get. I thought for sure they'd trade him because they wouldn't be able to afford him, but they made it work and I'm thrilled he's on the team. And now they have Jacques Martin on the staff. Letang is primed to have his best season ever, and not just offensively.

You bring up good points. Again, I don't dislike Letang. I simply tend to not give the benefit of the doubt to professional athletes who are injured often. Yes, every player (at any level of sport, not just professionals) is different. I give Letang grief because of the amount of injuries she's experienced throughout her career.

Please people (you're good rippit, I know you don't get mad), don't get homicidal or suicidal, these are opinions. We ALL have them!

Vokoun out 3-6 months:

Vokoun Out 3-6 Months - Pittsburgh Penguins - Features

That's pretty much what was expected given his condition, but I was staying optimistic that he'd be available sooner.

On a personal level, I'm happy and relieved that Tomas will make a full recovery. For the Pens though, this sucks. A lot. Shero is choosing to go w/ a backup who's never played an NHL game in Zatkoff, and we all know the deal with fleury. Tough to be optimistic after this.

More outstanding news, Neal is day-to-day with an upper body injury.

They can withstand Neal's absence for a few games. Nothing that they do matters until April anyway.

I'm anxious to see the crowd's reaction the first time Fleury gives up a bad goal or gives up 3 in a period. Will they turn on him? I can see it happening, but he's still pretty popular with the fans, so it should be interesting.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Maata play, even if it is just for 9 games. It also sends a message to Despres - "Kid, you're getting passed up by some of our other defensive prospects. Either get it together or enjoy the AHL."

2-0 to begin the season. Crosby and Fleury off to a nice start.

Yep. Kobasew and Adams with 2 goals each through 2 games. Lol, bizarre.

They're playing much tighter defense - very few giveaways or blown coverages. That could be because Letang is out (I know I just defended him a few days ago but I'm also not blind to his flaws) or it could be the Jacques Martin influence.

And I'll say this again (and I'll probably say it a hundred more times this year) - nothing matters until April.

Exactly. They could go 80-0 and it wouldn't matter. See me when the playoffs start. Until then, I just hope they avoid any big injuries....

Yep. Good start to season but the Pens are usually outstanding in the regular season. Playoffs, yeah bit of a different story.

Don't be sorry! Absolutely nothing wrong with staying optimistic. I'm just more of a pessimist. Everyone's different!

But yes, fleury has played well in the first 2 games, and the Pens have played decent defense. Anxious to see how they fare vs a powerhouse offensive team.

3-0 - can't get off to a much better start than that. First time they've started 3-0 since 1995, which is hard to believe with some of the teams they've had. All against sh!t teams, but you can only play the teams that are on your schedule. Fleury has been solid, but even more impressive is the team defense - very few breakdowns or odd-man rushes. Staal's goal was unstoppable - Orpik had position and knocked him down and he still got a deflection into the top corner. Just a great play. Gerbe's goal was a nice move too - you could blame Scuds for going down for the block, but I won't. Those things happen.

I know they're probably going to send Maata back to juniors, but that kid is something else. To be that poised at 19 is amazing. He's already over 200 pounds and he can easily put on another 10-15 pounds of muscle. He has the look of someone who will be a defensive fixture for the next 10 years.

And did Jussi what he did last night? Another reclamation project for the Pens that seems to be paying dividends at a minimal cost.

All in all a pretty nice start.
