Well, obviously our first loss had to come some time. Just not happy it was to the Panthers and it was just a terrible game by us. Six goals from Florida? Come on.

Yep, that was an awful game vs the Cats.

Back in the win column last night, but 4 goals on 18 shots, unacceptable. Not all on fleuey, way too many odd man rushes and quality chances allowed. They found a way too win, though.

Crosby with the hat trick though. As long as he stays healthy, we are a very good team.

Olli Maatta will remain with the Penguins.

Ray Shero: "Based on his play, we believe this is the best decision for Olli and the Penguin. We want to thank Mark and Dale Hunter and the London Knights for their patience and understanding."

3 goals in the last 7 minutes. Not good at all.

Tough to blame Zatkoff for any of those goals - the defense was nowhere to be found. He made a nice stop on Bailey on the GWG, then Scuds and Letang can't clear the rebound and he banged it in. The kid played a hell of a lot better than he did in Florida. I won't say I'm comfortable with him as the backup, but I wouldn't right him off yet either.

I'm more concerned about (1) the failure to protect a 3rd period lead and (2) the fact that for the second game in a row they dominated their opponent and lost. It's nice to ring up a huge shot advantage but it doesn't mean anything if you don't bury some of your chances. They need to find the back of the net more often than they have in the past 2 games.

Off to a great start and now three straight bad losses.

Looks like Rob Scuderi might be out for a long time. Guess that solves the D problem.

That is does - not the way you would want to solve it though.

And for a 3rd straight game they dominated the shot count and lost. This is becoming a trend. I think the problem is that they hardly ever have traffic in front of the goalie. Same story as the Boston series. Kunitz is the only one who consistently goes to the front of the net, and he can't play on every line. Any goalie in the league is going to stop most of the shots he can see.

They've lost some key physical forwards over the past few years (Ruutu, Cooke, Kennedy, Staal, Asham, etc.). They're not a tough team to play against. The Leafs murdered them in the hit column, and they seem to be getting outhit constantly. This is something that adding Neal and Bennett to the lineup won't solve. Unless Bennett is willing to be the guy in front causing chaos, and who knows, maybe he is willing - he's got the size, seems to have the demeanor, and might be one of those kids who will do whatever it takes to stick in the NHL.

Scuderi has a broken ankle. We will not see him on the ice for a long time.

Great win over those B's last night.

More importantly though... a child with a brain tumor got to meet his favorite hockey player yesterday as well. Great story. Class act that Sid!

Rumor has it they're expecting him out for 6-8 weeks. That sucks, but compared to other similar injuries, that's short. Hopefully it works out.

It's amazing how much better a goalie looks when there's an actual defense in front of him.

Is it just me, or does it seem like it's FOREVER between games this season? I got spoiled last year with the condensed schedule after the lockout when they never went more than 2 days between games. Just wondering if anyone else is feeling the same way.

In spots, yes. I've always said the NHL season is too long and spread out.

Pretty ugly game and poor effort vs the Rags so far.

As I type this Letang scores. Hope they can build.

Not at all. Poor effort all around. Forwards, d-men, fleury.

Malkin (especially) and Crosby need to wake up. I know they had won 4 straight before last night, so the loss isn't the end of the world, but neither of those 2 (especially Malkin) have really been a factor the past 5-6 games.

Malkin hasn't been a factor all season. I can only blame him so much - look at the wingers he's playing with. Crosby had an off game, but he's had points in almost every game this year, so I wouldn't say he hasn't been a factor. I wouldn't really blame Fleury either. I'm not one of those "Fleury-can-do-no-wrong" fans, but the first two goals were both beautiful shots right under the crossbar, one from about 15 feet. MAYBE he could have stopped one of those, but I wouldn't call either a bad goal. Goals 3 and 4 were deflections (one was a double deflection) that he could do absolutely nothing about. I didn't see the 5th goal - I was only half paying attention by then.

Here's what I'm sick off, and I've said this time and time again - where is the traffic in front on the power play??? If Kunitz isn't on the ice, there's no Pen in front of the net. The one goal the Pens scored, Kunitz was in front and Malkin was on Lundqvist's left on the goal line. The D had to cover those two, which left no one to pick up Letang when he came in from the point. That's why a net-front presence is so important - even if they're not screening the goalie or deflecting shots, they draw the attention of the D which leaves the high slot or the points open.

Shmegma (Megna) impresses me more every time I watch him. He's fast, plays physical (not that he hits but he doesn't mind getting hit to make a play), and he made a nice defensive play along the left wing boards in the Pens end when he was covering up for one of the D who had gone in deep.

You guys will laugh, but I'm serious when I say this - put Vitale or Glass on the second power play unit. THEY won't hesitate to go in front and take a beating. Plus Vitale has that speed and he wins faceoffs (I don't know what the final numbers were but the Pens seemed to get killed on faceoffs last night).

And I thought Bennett coming back on Saturday would allow them to move Jeffrey to the press box where he belongs, but now Dooper is hurt.

Summary - bad turnovers and sloppy play cost them this game after they dominated most of the first period but couldn't beat Henrik. Beat St. Louis on Saturday and I'm willing to write it off as "just one of those games."

Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond??? WTF do they need him for??? He's nothing but a goon!

On the plus side, I think he has the longest name in NHL history.

yes, Malkin needs to step up from time to time. hopefully Neal's return will shake (or wake) everyone up.

plenty of good stuff going on though. i really like Maatta and Megna so far... though i wish Despres would come back up.

as for PLLL... i assume they just want a little depth at goon.
