Default Market Analysis: 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey Delivering Big for Collectors

Market Analysis: 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey Delivering Big for Collectors
Jun 19th 2013, 21:12

With tonight’s pivotal Game 4 of the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Finals top of mind inside Panini America HQ and across North America, it seemed appropriate that Karvin Cheung’s early secondary market analysis on 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey hit my email inbox earlier this afternoon. After scouring the first few weeks of eBay activity, Cheung, Panini America’s NHL Product Development Director, delivered some rather interesting observations.
Perhaps the most glaring: The fact that the strongest rookie from the 2012-13 class is Boston Bruins defenseman Torrey Krug, whose current secondary market value is roughly 50 percent higher than that of fellow rookies Chris Kreider, Sven Baertschi, Jaden Schwartz, Jakob Silfverburg and Jake Allen. Currently, Panini America is the only company with autographed Krug RCs on the market.

“The power of being on the Bruins combined with Krug having a strong playoff run is a huge reason behind his place at the top,” Cheung said.
Based on researching both completed and live auctions on eBay, Cheung also offered these additional observations:
  • The non-autographed Silhouettes have performed better than expected, with patch versions numbered out of 10 bringing just below $100 a piece, on average.
  • The majority of the Rookie Silhouettes have brought back strong values ranging from $40 to $80 apiece, on average.
  • All the King’s Men Jersey and Prime inserts are delivering strong values; obviously, there are many people collecting the set devoted to the Cup-winning Kings. Also of note are the strong values of players that typically do not have jersey cards. This speaks well for our upcoming Engravatures set in 2012-13 Prime Hockey.
  • The Titanium Rookies numbered to each player’s jersey number also are performing well in the marketplace.
Below is a gallery showcasing some of the strongest sellers so far in 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey release. Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage.
