Default Flames Under Water

They may be a sports rival but that does not matter right now.

Terrible scenes out of Calgary today (and all of Southern Alberta).

The first 10 rows of the Saddledom are under water.

Historic Flooding.

I was supposed to be working downtown next week - that won't be happening.

Im from Calgary and I can tell you the flooding here is monumental, I took a drive tonight and downtown is completely flooded, The Stampede grounds (where the dome is located) is under water (we hold the Calgary Stampede in 2 weeks) Ive lived here my entire life and this is as bad as ive ever seen it.

That interior shot is awful - what a mess! Didn't realize that Calgary was flood-prone...

They have said a few hours ago the water is still sitting at Row 10 but the water outside is raging.

Believe the Flames Org., will be releasing photo's of the damage later today from what I heard.

Your right...I should have noticed that lights are on and people in the stands (thinking worst hockey game ever). Also water way too nice looking.

Here are some pics from today (yuk):

Scary stuff. I've got a lot of friends in Calgary who'll be in my prayers tonight, along with the rest of the city and province (I heard from a buddy Okotoks is under as well).

Hope you're alright, Oilers. It hasn't reached you, has it?

Thanks man - the North Sask is rising like crazy right now too. Devon (town just upstream of where we are had 1500 people evacuate. It should be ok here though. Calgary has a major cleanup and it's gonna take a while. The Saddledom (keep with the hockey theme) I hear will be minimum 2 months....and I would think that's optimistic.

I didnt know there was major flooding up there until I heard about the arena. Word on the street is the NHL is helping and they ANTICIPATE being open for start of 13-14 Season. Good luck with the recovery, Id be devastated if my arena was in that condition.

If you have ever experienced any kind of flooding you would feel like I did viewing that 'slide show', and know the undeniable stench that building must currently have with the standing muck and water!

That slideshow brings back terrible memories and I can still smell that awful stench from the flood water

Hurricane Ivan Floods;

Just north if Pittsburgh is Ellwood City. The Creek behind my house was so high we got 6 feet in our house. House had to be condemned and torn down. These types of disasters are life changers and make you appreciate the smaller things in life when you have to go through it. It was something we all thought would never happen. Sure it flooded here and there but never got into our house, I feel sorry for everyone in Calgary.

Be safe & Stay positive!!
