The Cup Question

I think I just secured a case and was wondering what the long term potential is on this. I know last years are around $3200 but those cases have crosby. Do you think these cases can grow. I think this years hockey class is just like this years football. everybody is so caught up in last years rookies they may not see the potential in this years. I really like malkin,kessel,staal etc... .
There is no way I can hold but just wanted to know what others thought.

Anything 05-06 will be on a level unto itself because it has arguably the two premier players in the sport for the next 10-15 years.
This years crop has alot of [I]potential[I] and a few future all-stars but none on the level of Sid and Ovie.

I dont know how high this years The Cup can really go - I do see 05/06 The CUp increasing over time, but that will always be because of Crosby. I say rip that case and post your results - maybe you will pull the Orr Property Of or an amzing Dual Auto Shields card.

I am definitely ripping and will post the results. It will either be thursday or friday. Hope to get one of the big 6 or the cup + 2 cases of tristar = already in for 10 cases of bowman chrome so if that goes bad too i may be out of things until 2008 Topps Heritage Baseball.

since no one knows the "real" production #'s- whose is to say that in true UD fashion they did not produce a "few" more cases this year 06/07- look what they did with with base UD series one hcky vice series two in 05/06. Under the new program, if I got product this close to the release date I would rip and post- thought personally it just kills me to sell hockey outta season......

Terry, I did not get the case from around here. I did have one guy try to sell me one tin for $450.
Dobber actually helped me find someone that he knows. Hopefully everything will go as planned. 4 color malkin patch /99, 4 color howe patch /10, and throw in a crosby /87 for fun. thats what i'm talking about.

I'll be interseted to see how the 6/7 Cup continues to break- kinda interested in getting some but also thinking about a case of 5/6 Ultimate Hockey vice 6/7 Cup. As per usual right know I dunno what to do............any thoughts?.........either way I'll likely be busting whatever I get

Dobber-love your Van Halen avator! Do you guys think 05-06 ultimate is a good break? I am caught between getting ultimate, 06-07 cup or 2006 football cases. What do you guys think would be a better break? Don't want to spend more than $1200 or 1300.

Hi Jhawk1,

Don't go for ultimate. I did 10 cases of this stuff and it was a complete waste of money. The best thing to do is quickly grab some 2006/07 The Cup real fast because they're already shooting up in value. You get the best looking cards for the buck and you can turn a very nice profit if you score some nice cards which you will get.

Raven- are you talking to 6/7 Ultimate hockey here or some other sport? I am assuming its hockey since this is the hockey forum- I basically asked the same question so I am more than interested in your feedback- my eye is 05/06 Ultimate Hky vice the 06/07 product but if it is hky you are speaking to I suspect 10 cases would be a good barometer- somehow your response does not surprise me all that much..............

The Cup seems to be loaded this year from all the breaks i've seen. i'd say try it.

I would caution against 05/06 Ultimate if you're going to bust it. you may get one decent hit per case, but getting your money back (with all of the $5 autos) is unlikely. best you can pull with Ult is a Crosby, which is never a bad thing, but for resale, it's sitting around $1000 whereas SEVERAL cards out of 06/07 Cup are going for at least that, for now and there seems to be a hit per tin.

I'd also say go for The Cup if you can get your hands on a case. I've been semi-sorta looking around for one but haven't come across much.

Hi Allhockey,

I'm talking about 2005/06 Ultimate Collection Hockey. It was by far horrible, i have never ever took a financial hit like that before in my life. I still have 2 grand debt left on my credit card thanks to that garbage. Bottom line every body stay far far away from most of these high end Upper Deck products it's just for the people who have money to burn. As for the cup, yes it's a good product only if you lock in at a low price aftr that forget about it. In the end guy's products like The Cup, Exquisite are the best high end products to keep sealed and sealed ONLY. Hope this helps.

This is one of the oddest selling products I have ever seen. Has anyone else noticed that the prices of Rc's has actually been going up after release as opposed to the normal first few sell the highest. I went through the Rc Auto/Patch checklist and wrote down the ave sale price for them and noticed that with most of the Rc's there last few that sold went for higher than the first couple. Very odd.

Raven- thanks for clarification- my plan is to sit tight and see how things play out- at least into September and then make a move on "something" in order to prepare for the upcoming season and show schedule......
