Default Leafs-Sabres Brawl

Boy, these have been two interesting games between the teams. A 15-round shootout Saturday night, and then the brawl of the year last night.

Ugh, I guess this is what we get with Carlyle. Shame we'll start the season without Clarkson and potentially Kessel, but this should be a good year nonetheless!

Anyone else see it?

I cannot stand Kessel. I hope he gets a nice suspension.

John Scott is a monster, I can't blame Kessel for being such a pansy.

Clarkson gets 10... and I would hope Kessel gets 5.

Scott did his job and then some. He didn't inflict physical harm. But he ultimately took two of the Leafs best players out of their lineup for a number of games.

It was an interesting situation to be sure. People are really upset that Scott broke the "code" by challenging a star player. Personally, I think the code is out-dated. If you're playing in the NHL, you need to be able to stand up for yourself and your actions. Now Kessel didn't necessarily start anything here, but those stick swings he took at Scott, should result in him getting a few games, IMO.

Which is just silly. The first swing of the stick I can understand as self-defense, although it isn't within the rules either. However, the second swipe was definitely out of anger with an intent to cause damage. I understand that it was at his legs and it barely made contact, but that's not the point. The NHL just seems to pull this discipline out of a hat. Then they fine the Sabres coach for having his fighter on the ice, which I could see if he put him out there after the initial melee to stir things up. The problem is, he was already on the ice, as it was the middle of his shift. Carlyle puts Kessel's line on the ice to "diffuse" the situation as he has the last change, and then the line brawl ensues. I know I'm a Sabres fan, and this seems to be a homerish post, and maybe it is, but it just seems that the NHL has been doling out preferential disciplines and decisions for years and is one of the reasons why the league gets so little respect. Rant has ended.

Second swipe was nothing more than a love tap.

I have to give Kessel major props. I thought for sure he would turtle and curl up in the fetal position. He stood up for himself and shockingly beat he snot out of that Sabre. I was stunned Kessel had stones to throw down, but seeing him bloody someone and even stop cause he was destroying the poor sap still shocks me. Good for Phil. Here in Boston they were giving him major props for what he did on radio. Guy has earned some respect. If it was Seguin I'm sure he would have wet himself and got off ice asap.

Leafs are fun team to watch with Carlyle and company. Can't wait for Orr and Frasier to cause all kinds mayhem this year.
