Default General Playoff Discussion Thread

Man I hate the new Playoff format. There is just no way either Chicago or St. Louis should have to be eliminated in the first round. I understand the whole "regional rivalry" thing but come on...what was wrong with the old format? You're going to punish one of the best teams in hockey by eliminating them in the first round just to promote a rivalry???

I like the new format - keep it in the division so it breeds more hatred. Rivalries aren't made until teams meet in the playoffs. The only change I would make is to get rid of the wild cards and have the top 4 teams in each division make the playoffs, with 1-4 and 2-3 matchups in each division. I also wish they'd bring back Adams, Patrick, Smythe and Norris as the division names.

Really? Are you finding that you can't stand the Blue Jackets?

And you're last suggestion is a MUST!

The Blue Jackets don't bother me...yet. But hopefully I'll hate them after this series. The Wings and the Avs had no history whatsoever, but all it took was one hit in a playoff series to make that the hottest rivalry in hockey for several seasons.

One of the reasons I wanted the Pens to play the Jackets was that it's a natural rivalry just waiting to happen. They're the closest city geographically to Pittsburgh. Plus they're going to be very good very soon - John Davidson is building them just like he built the Blues. With that management team in place, I give it 2 to 3 years tops before they're contending for the division title.

Oh, and I also wanted the Pens to play the Jackets so the Pens could avoid Philly and Detroit

Hagelin scored.

One of the few hockey players I know.

Have a feeling the Hawks/Blues matchup will be one of the better first round series ever. This has Hawks/Canucks written all over it, only there seems to be more of a rivalry to this series than the one with the Canucks (if that's possible).

Headed to OT now, should be incredible.

Wow Sharks are already up 3-0 after one period against LA. Tons of hitting, 55 hits in the first period

Wild just about ended it. That's not a power play to take out the net to save the puck?

Not watching the game, but I think I understand the situation. It could be called if the official saw it and deemed it intentional (although these types of delay of game penalties are rare), but in this case they probably did not.

Wow, just put the game on. Wow.

Add me to the group who does not like the new format. Then again, I would do away completely with divisions and just have two conferences. Take the 8 best teams from each and let them do battle.

Blackhawks-Blues heading to 3rd OT in Game 1. Whoever win this series is going to be a battered team heading to the next round. Very physical Game 1. This series might end being more physical, but there was more hatred between the Hawks and Canucks. 3 straight years in the playoffs, and those losers from Vancouver became my most hated team. Still are.

Crap. Blues win 26 seconds into the 3rd OT.

Did they hire some guys off the street to officiate the MN-COL game, what a horrible job and hopefully the NHL sees it (unless you are an Avs fan).

Epic hockey last night with the two Overtime games in St. Louis and Colorado being the highlights.

Really enjoyed the fact you could flip right over to the Colorado game once the Blues put Chicago away, don't anticipate anything less with the B's/ Red Wings tonight although I don't think I could handle a triple OT game!

The St. Louis/ Chicago game was a very physical affair with Toews really get beat up throughput the game, it appears that's part of the Blues game plan and will have to be handled by the Blackhawks going forward.

Ryan Miller could very well be the difference in the series for the Blues!

Default Wings/Bruins

Can't wait til tonight... Time to put up my Red Wings shrine for the 23rd straight year! Very excited about being the underdog again this year, Anaheim overlooked us last year and Boston shouldn't this year.

You should be used to that by now - one year does not a trend make

Not a fan of the new format personally, but I will agree with everyone so far that the Game 1's so far have been outstanding.
