I am new here and want to start collecting hockey and baseball. I know a lot more about baseball cards, but I would like to know which hockey boxes are pretty hot today? I was thinking about buying a 05/06 box but is it even worth it to try for one of those rookies? Which boxes would you recommend if I'd like some new rc, autos and some gu stuff? I am not afraid to spend a good amount on a couple boxes. Thanks!

Hey BJD
Welcome to the hockey collecting community! I would say it is worth going to those rookies...but keep in mind that you will be paying higher prices because of that rookie crop! SP game used is good...and that year its not too expensive. SPX is good too. You might want to try some UD series too, its pretty cheap and you have a good chance at getting an Ovie.

Being a game-worn collector I'm a sucker for SP Game-Used. If you don't mind paying around $180 for a 6-pack box I'd say it's a good product. Every pack has a game-used or autograph card as well as 2 base cards, plus good odds of getting at least one patch per box.

Flo you didnt say save up for the Cup...whats wrong?
07/08 UD is a decent product. All rookies are short-printed though, so I think you get 1:6 packs, so 4 a box (or its 1:4 and you get 6, I don't remember). Generally 2 GU'd per box and an auto? I myself like'd Trilogy, and Artifacts is nice but, if much much harder to get the top rookies.

I love 05/06 Rookie Update. Very hard to get either Crosby or Ovie, but for the break price, I think its has lots of potential. Biggest problem with anything I can think in 05/06 the Big 2 are short printed in every release. If you wanted to risk the odds, I'd get a box of 06/07 SPA as they did release some 05/06 rookie patch auto's into it. SPA can be a fun break, but its risky.
07/08 Products really depends on what you want. Lots of variety, but main rookies are short printed again. SP Game Used has seemed like a decent break, but there are dud boxes and you could easily regreating dropping big $$ and walking away scorned.

I had good luck with a box of 05/06 bee hive. About $55 on blowout now. The box I bought had a Crosby beige base and ovie rc, plus a ovie 5x7. Not saying that that is normal for a box, but for the price the chances of pulling either of them isn't too bad.
