This. The consistent great regular seasons, followed by playoff failures at a crazy rate, it's tough to be optimistic. Look at the CBJ series: at times the team looked almost unstoppable, other times they looked like they didn't belong in the NHL. BUT, I will say, you haven't seen anything. Head over to the official Pens board. I'm a pessimistic person, I fully admit, but most of the characters there are everything that's wrong with Pittsburgh fans. Dudes over there had a *UCKING METLDOWN after the Rangers scored the FIRST goal. People were going from predicting the Pens to win the series in 5 or 6, to calling that they'd be swept. All stemming from ONE goal in the first period of Game 1. Funny, stupid stuff.

And it's like these people are surprised by poor playoff performances. Happens every year, why would it be any different this year? So that's why we're pessimistic. But yeah, every time the Pens lose a game (regular season or playoffs), there's a meltdown. It's pretty comical. All teams have the idiots in their fan base, and this is what the idiots in this fan base do.

This year has been (or will be, whatever way you want to look at it) easy, as people who truly know this team don't expect them to advance deep into the playoffs.

I hope so but I don't think it will happen. The Rangers have lost 12 straight games with a series lead.

Lundqvist was stellar. Penguins still look lame even after that performance.

I personally didn't think either team played great, if that first goal doesn't go in like that I think it would have went to OT 0-0 lol

maybe it's just my pessimistic expectations, but i thought it was a great game for the Pens.

they played solid defense. killed 6 penalties, including 3 in the first 10 minutes of the game. Letang looked solid. Fleury got the shutout... which is priceless.

Crosby didn't score but played well. he, Kunitz and Malkin are finally turning it up. Goc and Sutter are doing great winning their FO's and the Pens out shot the Rangers.

Lundqvist was a wall, but they were still able to get a couple by him.

they finally played with some intensity and urgency too. loved Malkin racing to the puck at the end to get the empty net.

apparently i'm one of the few that thinks it was a good game... but if they play like that the rest of the way I'd be happy.

Pens played well, and Crosby had his best game. If he can break this awful goalless streak, this team becomes very dangerous.

Should be a good game tonight.

I thought that was the Pens' best game of the playoffs. It's amazing what happens when they shoot the puck, drive to the net and play an entire 60 minute game. As well as they played, I though Hank was going to steal it - he was fantastic in net.

I'd love to see more of the same from the Pens tonight. If they play like that they'll be tough to beat. But, as always, the question is, will they play like that? They've played 8 games so far in the playoffs and played a full 60 minutes in 2 of them - game 5 against the Jackets and last night. I'm cautiously optimistic, but with Lucy holding the football I'm far from ready to say they've seen the light.

I think it's mostly Rangers fans that are saying the Pena don't look good. Seems that most Pens fans are happy with the performance, I know I am.

Keep the pressure up, keep shooting, play physical. They did those things last night, and good things happened.

I have a bad feeling about tonight. Even though they won't admit it. I think the Rangers are tired all tense games are catching up with them.
