This just in; Twitter has been banned for life from all NHL games and fined $2.5M....

...oops wrong sport.

interesting to see but like I said....been to plenty of games and never heard anything like this....then again people tend to say some pretty crazy #ish online that they would never say in person...

Down with Twitter?
99% of those cowards would NEVER say that if they weren't anonymous. The ones saying it probably don't even realize that Iggy is black, let alone that Subban's brother plays for Boston's AHL affiliate.

It is, no denying that. But you're comparing "over a dozen tweets" to "over 17,000 tweets". That's like comparing someone stealing a candy bar from a 7-11 to the Madoff scam.

There were a lot of stupid tweets. No going to make an excuse for that. Hockey as a whole has had too many of these incidents.

I didn't see all the tweets but you seem to be missing the line..not all tweets were negative in nature...any time people tweet things of that nature it will get a lot of discussion...all someone has to do is use that word with subban in the post and they are counted in the 17,000

Agree 100%. And poor Simmonds. It's funny, because most Penguin fans that I know love Simmonds. He's also my favorite non-Penguin player. Subban, not so much. Still, love or loath a player, that is just wrong.

True, but most of the tweets that were not negative - at least the ones that I saw - used "Subban" and "racist" or "racism", not "Subban" and the n-word. And a lot of them were probably also multiple tweets from the same person. Still, that's a LOT of tweets. Even if half of them were positive and every person that tweeted that tweeted 3 similar tweets, you're still looking at almost 3,000 people.

Okay Broons fans, I just wanted to jerk your chains a little - all in good fun. Hopefully I WON'T see you in a Pens-Broons series thread in a week and a half - I'd rather play the Habs if the Pens survive this series

not surprising... apparently they did the same thing to Joel Ward of the Capitals a couple of years ago. and apparently a fan tossed a water bottle at Subban's head after he scored and hit him. good job Boston!

of course all Boston fans aren't racist and the organization is doing it's best at damage control, but 15,000+ tweets all from the Boston area don't lie.

Iginla, and especially Subban's brother, must be loving their new home. Both probably can't wait to get the hell out of town now.

yeah, remember when Pens fans sent 15,000 racist tweets when Wayne Simmonds scored on them? oh, wait... that never happened. stop projecting.

maybe Donald Sterling can sell the Clippers and buy the Bruins.

No one said it was the same as 17000 and 17000 was not the number of negative tweets towards PK to begin with. I do not really care if it is 5 or 500. It is not acceptable either way and I am glad the people that tweeted that garbage have been destroyed on twitter.

This is very true, unfortunately.

Embarassing for B's fans, considering there were that many tweets. Would certainly be embarrassed if this happened involving a team I root for.

I always hate when the B's play the Canadiens. Seems no matter what they always give them a tough time

As a Bruins fan I could care the least that some anonymous idiots used a form of social media to embarrass themselves, it does not have any effect on the games and at this point of the season that's all that matters to me!

I think I'm above getting involved in a discussion about a bunch of pubescent bozos and what they 'tweet' on a social media, I guess for some folks it's a big deal and an opportunity to label a specific fan base, knock yourself out!!

Does anyone actually believe the tried and true Garden faithful that were at last nights game were 'tweeting' racial slurs as they left the Garden, no it's the 'clowns' that want to get just this type of attention that have always done this #@#@#@#@, therefore as a fan of the Bruins I will refuse to acknowledge these morons and move on.

I thought this is a thread about the Bruins vs. Canadians, but predictably has turned into just ANOTHER attempt at Boston Fan bashing. SMH

By the way Game 2 is tomorrow at 12:30 not sure everyone saw THAT 'Tweet'!!! LOL

100% what TASS said, just frustrating when we as a fan base get labeled for the crap that idiots do...ready to see a game 2 win and a rocking garden send off to montreal...

I remember this type of stuff after Joel Ward scored the series winner. Would imagine this is the same people.

Oh well. My personal experiences with Bruins fans have been positive, and the Garden is always electric with some of the best fans in the league. That's where I'll base my opinion of Bruins fans from, not this pathetic display.

Regardless, absolutely disgusting act. I'm absolutely horrified that this type of stuff took place, and I hope these people never get in to an NHL rink. The game is for the best fans in the world, not dumbasses like this. Horrible, absolutely horrible.

My first post was a jab at Hockey....this is a serious post.

This ALREADY happened in 2012!

NHL Playoffs 2012: Boston Bruins Fans Unleash Racial Slurs in Response to Loss | Bleacher Report

I'm sorry, but this is now two incidents in the playoffs by a portion of this fanbase....it's unacceptable.

It's shameful and it's beneath us as sports fans where race has absolutely nothing to do with your talent...

I really liked it when the city of Boston rallied around a tragedy last year to support their city and sports teams.

"Boston Strong"....that was something I really like about that city's sports fans, they know how to come together.

I can only hope they come together to denounce this nonsense as well...because there should be absolutely ZERO tolerance for racism.
