Default Why cup hockey gold prices way discounted over /99 ?

Just curious, why the gold version of the cup rookies sell on huge discount compared to base rookies /99 ? The huge gap in pricing doesn't make much sense.

They aren't considered "true" rookies. Sounds stupid, but collectors are funny that way.

What he said.

Only the really low numbered golds sell well.

Like RBK said, there are some exceptions to this rule, depending on the numbering of the Gold Rainbow versions. An example is the Drew Doughty /8, which has sold much higher than his /99 in the past...and I believe one guy now owns all of them, which is crazy.

When the gold is #'d /20 or less then you see it outselling similar patches /99's. Again the lower the number the flavour of the patch becomes less relevant (see Taylor Hall/Double D/ Ovie) .
