Default Top 5 Moment of my life tonight !!!!

Let me start off by saying sorry if this is in the wrong forum. If the mods need to move it, please do so.

That being said, Today at work we decided to take our lunch at the Blackhawks game since it was opening night and they did the banner raising. As a longtime Hawks fan it was a chance I couldn't pass up. As a suprise the Hawks had some members of the '61 team that won the Cup there to help with the ceremony. We were able to get downstairs by the locker rooms in hopes of getting to see the Cup. A buddy had let us know that the NHL had already taken the Cup and we would not get to see it. Feeling disappointed we watched some of the 1st period when all of a sudden Stan Makita is standing next to me. I ask him to snap a quick photo with me and he said sure. After the picture he asked me,"Hey, why not get one with all of us ?" He called over the rest of the guys and before you knew it I had a chance of a lifetime right there !! The guys could not have been any nicer. They went on their way and we continued to watch the game. I look over my shoulder and see a face I've seen 100 times. It was Phil Pritchard, Hockey Hall of Fame Vice President and Curator. I felt I had nothing to lose, I told him my story about how I worked for the Hawks when I was younger at the old Chicago Stadium locker room as a stickboy and it was a dream of mine to see the Cup. He said,"Sure thing, follow me." Before you knew it we were walking through the tunnels of The United Center on our way to meet the Cup. He opened the doors to a room and as I walked in I could see it sitting on a table. There it was sitting there as if the whole room belonged to it. The hair on my neck was standing up as I walked closer to it. I have some pics I'll show you all.

Me and Makita

Me and a Hawks Championship ring.

Me wearing the ring.

ME AND THE CUP !!!!!!!

I still have the biggest smile on my face !!! A night I will NEVER forget !!!

- Sorry for the long post.....

That is incredible, the perks of being a cop. The old timers always seem so much nicer then the newer players. A once in a lifetime experience. My nephew is coming over to watch some football with me tomorrow, he is 10 and loves hockey, I will make it a point to show him these pics. Congrats on a great experience.

wow... great story. that's awesome that the older Blackhawks were so nice and to actually get to take a picture with the Stanley Cup is amazing.

I thought you guys only at at Ricobene's!

That's such a great story! That was really nice of everyone involved to make that happen for you. I have to say, it's nice that every little device is a camera these days to catch moments like that...not that you'd ever forget them, but the photos are nice to have.

I LOVE 'Bene's !!! Everyone that was involved tonight was Class A1 !! I also spent a couple minutes talking with a kid who was there with the Make a Wish Foundation. I shared some stories with him. You could tell by the look in his eye that seeing the Cup was a moment he would never forget.

Was watching some of that ceremony last night and even though I'm a Flyers fan I thought it was pretty cool how the last cup winning legends passed on the banner to the new legends. Boy Mikita is getting old looking. Was Hull drunk ?

Awesome story! Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your service. I bet being a cop in Chicago isn't always fun, meaning you deserve many more nights like this.
