This has been a growing trend.
Situation Someone posts on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum "Selling team lots!!!!!" or something of that nature. I post on the thread, make me a Mets lot ![]() I receive a PM for the member with a list of cards. I tell that member which cards I am interested in and to give me a price. The member then says something along the lines in some variation of "make me an offer". My response is always I dont make offers, give me a price and we can negotiate from there. The member then gives me a hard time about how they dont know how much its worth and that I need to make an offer first. I even had a member tell me Thats not how things work Thats not how things work?! I have 74 completed transactions on here and I am a Powerseller on eBay, both with 100% feedback. I think I know how things work. KNOW HOW MUCH YOUR YOU WANT FOR YOUR CARDS, YOU ARE THE ONE SELLING THEM AFTER ALL. This message is not directed to any particular individual because multiple people have done this. You need to post prices on the Buy/Sell/Trade sections, thats the rules. The same should be done through PMs. END RANT

If you are publicly selling cards, you should not be asking for offers first. However, if someone puts out a BUYING thread, I think it's ok to ask how much the buyer is buying specific cards for. (IE. BUYING POSEY BOWMAN CHROME AUTO's....) I think it's ok to respond with....what are you paying per?

At first, I had trouble listing cards. However, it took me no more than a couple days to find out what to do. Also, if you're unsure just put a price obo... it'll enable those who do know the price help you.

I think people have a right to sell their stuff however they choose, just as I have a choice to ignore their listing if I'm not happy with the way it's presented...

I agree, post prices (or give me one in a pm) for your own cards. Every time someone asks me for "my offer", they are either ignored or given an offer of $1...

I think people do that from the desire to be the controller of negotiations. The one who puts the price out is the one who controls the perimeters. For example, if I am one the guys you speak of and I say make an offer, then that gives me to power to say yes or not or negotiate.
I'm with you. Give me a price if you are selling. If I have done that to anyone with the "make an offer," I'm sorry.

Oh yea I'm 0 and 6 when it comes to those that ask me to come up with a LOT for them. For me that is difficult as hell to do. I prefer to just randomly pick out a few cards and create a Sells Thread.

hobby world is double standard ... if you are a buyer you always want to get the best price possible
if you are a seller you always want to get the highest $$$ you can get now tell me how many members here have the initiative to return pm's once sellers give out prices. why is it difficult for buyers to counter offer? most of the time i see after prices have been given its either you dont get a respond or youll receive no thanks. shouldnt it be appropriate fir the buyer to make a counter offer for a card they want or need or say in a polite way that i cant do what your asking but i can do it a bit lesser say 10 dollars less or better yet i can get that card much less . straight forward response isnt it easier for a deal if you know how much your buyer is willing to pay??? if a card sells averagely $20 off fleabay why is it too difficult for the buyer to make an offer of $15 -17 ? then it will go back to my very first statement ... buyers want to get the cheapest possible. if that is the case be frank in telling the seller that im not willing to pay market value |

i agree with u skeen........numerous times i have given someone a price and they don't even respond. ok i guess that means they didn't like the price, well i'm going to try to get what i want. if they don't like it i say what can u do? 9x out of 10 i'm probably going to accept their price unless it's a crazy low price.

I'm not a fan of "Making offers". The only time I see it being acceptable is for rare cards like 1/1's or something. I think haggling is very acceptable and in my opinion makes the hobby fun. I've done a few deals on here and very recently that the starting prices aren't close but eventually we worked it out. I've had very few problems with people getting upset about a price counter offer or a starting original price. I guess I've been lucky.

I will understand offers if a price is set first. Say they have a lot, and don't know the price...they should throw out a price that sounds reasonable and say I also accept offers.

I usually always list a price, and usually so low that no offers are needed. But when someone offers me a low ball price and I say i will pass, there are couple members that will reply with something smart a$$ saying my item/lot is worthless and what not... and most of these comments come from members with 30+ feedback!
