Scott airforce base? Maybe this is why he is flying out for a few months and there is no record of planes going to HK. Its a Military plane he is on?

I just hope we know what happened. I would say that he only scammed because people were asking for free things but if he is flying to Hong Kong this had to be planned. Plus these good deals built up trust. Just disappointing

If thats confirmed at some point, I remember a few years back a scam by an armed forces member--someone contacted the base and up the chain it went and everyone got their stuff or money back. Believed they actually talked to the CO of the base

If this was the case, the kid from the school down the road should pay attention to the news or google the local newspaper. As a prior service member (GO ARMY!) deployment's are usually celebrated locally to give the members a final good luck and be safe! This information is generally found in local news casts/newspapers. If a unit from that AFB were mobilizing towards Hong Kong, that kid could find the answer within the hour.

This is the kind of story that should be picked up by local/national news, I'm not kidding. When it's all settled, I bet he has stole around 50K. It also looks like he has a history of doing this. People like him are good and hard to find, but with the right exposure and investigation, he could be found IMO.

As an aside to the whole scammer deal. My father was stationed at Scott from '97-'01 while I was in HS. We lived in Belleville, so I am very familiar with that area, including O'Fallon, Shiloh, and the base. In Jersey now, so obviously can't do any in person investigating, just found it odd that I was so close to where this schmuck calls home.

Alright, thats fair, just didn't want to throw more out there in case its another dead end.

I think its fair to say the 3 best possibilities are

1) Huge scam, never planned on sending this biggest bunch of lots, will let Paypal claims run their course so that he has a couple weeks to get the money and be long gone.

2) Scam that didn't get to go all the way out, will only get the people that paid by Gift/don't care enough to do the process

3) (Highly unlikely) Guy really is having issues, and dealt with this in the absolute worst way possible.

I feel like it may be 3 but not as in some tragedy but he may just be mentally sick. I mean with all the free stuff he gave away, could he make all the money back with this one scam? Either way in any event, this was the dumbest thing he could've done
