Default ebay vetran with a new problem...

Hello all...

I've been on ebay for 10 years now, but I am definitely not a 'hardcore' or volume seller. I would say my transactions are 1/3 sales, 2/3 purchases. Believe it or not, in 10+ years and 300+ transactions, I've only had one problem - it was from a buyer and was amicably resolved. I've only sold a handful of cards on there, and never had issues or problems. So, this day was inevitable.

So I sell a card, the buyer asks a question about shipping, I answer, he acknowledges...

5 days, no payment, no communication. I send a friendly reminder. 7 days, no payment, no communication, I send a more stern, but polite question asking when he plans on paying. 2 days later... still nothing.

I search his name on here, he pops up twice as a NPB. Awesome.

So my question is naive and simple... where do I go from here? I don't want to get a retaliatory negative, and I can't leave a negative for him. The item was won on Feb 11, last communication from him was Feb 12. Is it too soon to file a NBP claim? I've never filed a claim like that, is it hard or complicated?

Sorry for not knowing this stuff after having been on ebay for so long, but I've always been careful as a buyer and seller and thankfully avoided problems until now.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

once you open a NPB case he cannot leave you feedback. I give 4 days and then they have 4 days after that. I would open the case now. since he is a known npb'er you most likely are not going to get paid no matter what. Just add one more stike to his account.
You should also set up some of your filters for buyers (IE adding a blocked list, adding that after so many non-pays in a time frame, you cannot bid, etc.)

There are a couple of other threads out here w/the same info. I'll try and pull them up since I;m sure they are not in the correct place. I know I responded to a few.

You got it. Good luck w/it. I have my own boneheaded issue that I caused yesterday - shipped out the wrong set and couldn't get it back in time from the PO. First time I have ever shipped out the wrong item, and like you I'm 10+ years of online selling.

Once you close a case the buyer can't leave feedback. A buyer has four days to pay once a case is opened. eBay considers that period normal payment period. The buyer receives no form of penalty and CAN leave feedback.

I allow 14 days to remit payment. I open NPB between day 9 and 10, so that the window closes at my 14 day deadline.

Then I must had had an error 2 days ago. Case was opened, and the place where the the feedback icon shows was dashed out. Payment was made, case closed, and that icon is now open again.

I don't know what that dash signifies. Maybe you can't leave feedback until you respond to the NPB. That is just my thinking. I don't know.

maybe....hmmm. I was the seller. I'll have to check to see what the 4th icon over is then. The seller feedback received or the buyer feedback received.

I was always under the impression that feedback from a buyer cannot be left while a case is open, and you cannot leave feedback as a seller when the case is closed for non-payment (so you have to put it in ahead or time or use the mobil app to do this)

Hello all...

Just a quick update on my story... Late last night (exactly 4 days after the case being opened) the buyer paid for the card. So I will be shipping out Monday and I will undoubtedly be obligated to leave positive feedback.

Begin rant...

When I sell something, it's not because I'm in dire need of money, I just no longer want or need that item. But when one goes to the store and buys something, you don't say "I'm going to take this item, and I'll be back next week to pay for it", do you? Obviously the buyer doesn't get the item until its paid for, but its unfortunate ebay members have this mentality that they can bid/offer/buy and not pay for an item because they decide they don't want it, or pay for it at their own leisure, which is sometimes worse because the seller receives no communication, not knowing the buyer's intentions for days or weeks. When you buy/trade, either pay up immediately, or properly communicate any payment issues you may have... as houdini has so eloquently explained in his excellent "buy/sell/trade etiquette" tutorial on here.

... end rant.

Anyway, I can't leave negative feedback for him/her, but I can leave their ebay ID here for others to consider...

lswsales123

Thanks for reading and apologies for the rant.

He has never left a negative or neutral before. I think you are probably safe.
