Yeah people also said that about that Lj biggest fan guy that would message sellers on eBay and offer more money then what an auction just ended at.

I believe that was the guy.

I guess...... but still.

I try to put myself in his place, and I have. So I would have just let Forgiven get the card, as he should have, and then offered him more! If I really wanted it. If not, then so be. It's a shady move anyway you look at it. Yes, player collector excited, but being excited doesn't give a person the right to try to be shady to get a card when they KNOW that other person was promised it, and a deal was already made!

We can sit there trying to make sense of it, but then I think, I wouldn't do that. So what's so special about him?

But anyway, I think you're doing the right thing here, and you could both walk away happy, and it's the way it should have been.

- You cannot sell someone else's card without their permission.

- Once the deal was agreed upon, the card was no longer "solely" WillC's.

- Therefore, the only way WillC could sell it to JP is if Forgiven says he can.

- Since that is not the case, JP has no say in this other than, "give me my payment back in full".

All this "ethically speaking", of course.

In my opinion, the card should be sent to forgiven for the ORIGINAL offer. After all, that's the legally binding contract.

Yes, Gio is right and the only honest and fair way for this to be resolved is for you to go through with your original transaction with forgiven. That was a deal and it should have been completed.

If JP really wants the Worthy, then he should see if forgiven is willing to work out a deal. If so, great. If not, then he'll have to deal with the fact that he was the second in line for the card and he was unable to convince WillC to let him line jump forgiven.

I think this was a very disreputable thing for WillC to have done, but at least if he holds up his end of the deal and delivers the card to forgiven (or JP if that's worked out with forgiven), then he will have at least tried to do the right thing and set his mistake right.

Please donnot get me wrong here. I am against this whole thing..... i'm just happy for Forgiven. This is what should have happened, the card was his. Nothing special here by him getting what was already his, it SHOULD have been that way already. A shame this happened, but this can now be settled, and that's a good thing. So yeah, don't think i'm ok with this action, because I am not. But I am happy it will be resolved.

I have contacted JP to tell him that I will refund him his money and send the cards back to him.

I will then complete the deal with forgiven, as agreed.

This is truly disappointing. I am truly shocked at this lapse of integrity by WillC. I don't frequent the Basketball forums but I have noticed that Will is usually very well spoken and thoughtful, even if I disagree sometimes with his opinions.

Will, I hope you use this time away from the hobby to reflect on your choices. This was an easy call and I hope you are able to reconcile your willingness to sell your integrity down the river for a few bucks.

Thanks, and yes, I will definitely be taking a break from the hobby, if not quitting altogether. I messed up. I can honestly say I tried to act with integrity by selling to a player collector. However, this thread has made me realise that greed also played a part in it, which I am very ashamed of, and I also went about things completely the wrong way.

I sold my Isiah Thomas of that same card - 1/1 Logoman, for $355 on ebay auction. So I was, and still am, very surprised of that price. But that's what happens when you're the best negotiator!

Heck, if that Worthy is a $1700 card, then what would my Erving be worth? lol.....

Sorry, couldn't help myself I actually forgot I had this card from this whole mess.... believe it! You just reminded me with your post. Such a sad situation.

i would easily paid close to the current price. These are hard to come by cards. Hope everyone works it out.

My thing is why all the nice cards are always get dealt behind closed doors..

Gio, I think it proves something we already knew: Isiah Thomas is one of the most unloved superstars that the hobby has ever known.

This situation is so full of fail.

Please correct me if I am misunderstanding/misrepresenting any of the following.

WillC has a card incoming. He does not have it hand
He offers it to a bunch of perople via pm (fail #1 - dealing a card not in hand)
He appears to playing people offers off one another (fail #2)
Backs out of deal with forgiven1, unless forgiven1 comes up with more money(fail #3)
Forgiven1 agrees to price increase, but waits to pay until WillC actually has card(smart move!)
Some unknown amount of time passes
WillC makes a deal with a 3rd party (jp) who appears to have sent paypal and cards to WillC before WillC has card in hand (Fail # 4 5 and 6 triple fail - backing out of deal, actually dealing card not in hand and on jp's part as well - for sending a trade/money before other party even has it)
Again an unknown amount of time passes
WillC receives item and finally gets around to letting forgiven1 know that he has backed out of deal. (Fail #7 )
We then find out on top everything else, WILLC has already sold one of the cards JP sent him, once again, before even having card in hand to send out to JP. (Fail #8)

I do respect WillC is owning up to it and trying to fix but
Consider this
How much worse would this crapstorm be
if WillC had received the 1/1 and it had been mangled in transit?

Why not just make me your first offer right away?

As a result, it created an awkward situation (which was my own fault) whereby it looked like I was starting a bidding war, but I never wanted that to happen.
What the F are you talking about?!?! You told him if he offered more it was his?!Q?!?!?!?!?!!?

This post made me laugh so hard with all the mentions of "fail" and it reminded me of this triple fail picture

Funny stuff man!
