Default Good Ole Ebay Fun

So i had something for sale and got a message from 0 feed backer saying..."how do you buy something off ebay".....i couldn't actually believed it so i ignored it and he won one of my listings...Firstly, that makes me look like i set that up because he has zero feedback and Secondly, what do you even say to someone that has no clue what they are doing. I obviously would like to help out but 0 or negative feedback makes me feel uneasy...thoughts please...

Sorry but I think you took the wrong course of action here. It didnt sound like a scam, sounds like the person legitimately wanted to know how to purchase something. I would just advise them that you would recommend they set up a paypal account as most people, including you, require that as the form of payment. Then state if they win the item that there will be a link in Myebay to click on and then follow the prompts to issue payment. Everyone has to start buying somewhere. Most of the 0 feedback bidders that are going to scam you or not pay are either not going to contact you at all or they are going to send some ridiculous messages. Just message him back now that he won and ask him to set up a paypal account and then follow the prompts to pay. Plus hopefully if he is new he isnt going to be aware of all the scamming tactics that we hear about everyday on these boards

Everyone has to start at 0. You should of answered him back, with a quick explaination of process, or at least link him to the tutorials on ebay.

FYI... if you go to someones feedback profile page, on the right side is "Member quick links", click on "view id history", it will show you any and all id's they have had previously, if they have had a bunch, be cautious, if its their only one, well then they are just new.

The OP owes the buyer nothing. He is supposed to walk him through how to use Ebay after he signed up already? Would have blocked the buyer immediately after receiving that message and never would have allowed him to win the auction. It's probably honest, but these are the kinds of buyers that are more hassle than it's worth.

Some people don't know how to complete transactions on ebay when they are initially starting out, some people don't know how to negotiate buy it now or best offer negotiations when they have a few people offering, some people don't know how to see what buy it now or best offer items sell for, etc. We all need a little help with some things every once in a while so we might as well ask for assistance

you may be the one with no clue...I'm sure he meant buying "off" ebay to mean he would pay you straight paypal for a lower price...you save ebay fees and he gets lower price

I signed up for ebay about two years ago. They essentially walk you through the buying process, particularly if you have PayPal.

Hopefully you have the requirement that a buyer must have a PayPal account to bid/buy. Otherwise I'd say no chance that gets paid for.

I woulda probably blocked him after the message as I don't have the patience for it anymore
