Default Advice On Ebay Non-Payer

I sold a card on Friday and the buyer just contacted me and said he was laid off from his job and is unable to pay for the card and asked if I can cancel the transaction.

There were like 5 other bidders on the card so I'm not worried about re-listing it or selling it to the next highest bidder.

So what would you do? Give the guy a break and just cancel or file a non-paying case.....

Cancel the transaction to get your ebay fees back and move on.

I second that motion; i generally just move on and get over it, especially if I know it will sell again for around the same price

File the unpaid item, do not cancel the transaction. If he does not agree you will not get your money back and he could still neg you just because.

Last one I fell for ended up refusing the cancellation and negged me for not sending the card. Luckily I got the right rep and showed all the proof that they were the one who wanted out of the cancellation.

Another point in August all these mutual cancellations will possibly count as defects against a seller. That is still an unanswered question but if you sell less than 400 items every 3 months you will be on the hood for "defects" all the way back to August 2013.

Cancel and move on. No need to burn any bridges. You never know, this person might send much business your way in the future.

And people wonder why there are so many buyers who think they can bid and then not pay.. Too many here afraid to do the right thing.. Thanks a lot from all of us sellers dealing with a rash of non-payers. Grow a set.. I bet if you look at this buyers history he is buying away.

I deal with non paying buyers all the time and most of them NEVER contact me at all with excuses. When I do get them though, I take in to consideration all of the elements to include their history. But its nice to know that some dealers out there have a heart. Also they could just pay for it and than return it, thus wasting your time. If you anything like me in sales, time is money and id rather not waste it on waiting for Ebay to do the right thing and block non paying bidders.

There would be one of those evaluated items that needs to be taken in to consideration. Good job if this is in fact that same buyer

Ebay is possibly going to be suspending sellers for "having a heart" come August. Seller initiated cancellations are going to be counted as defects. Right now the system is set up so that ONLY the seller can initiate cancellations. Some Ebay reps have said they will count and others have said they won't. Either way they are going to go all the way back to August of 2013 once they start counting them

I have 18 unpaid item cases opened right now. 7 of them contacted me saying they would pay by a certain day and guess what that day came and went.

The OP said there were 5 other bidders and it sold on the 28th. That is the only card in their history that fits the bill. I would be willing to go one step further if we knew the buyers actual ID we would see where he has bought the same card from another seller at a lower price.

Yeah I get it. I have my account set to open cases after 4 days of non payment and than close after 4 more after payment hasnt been received.

If they want to suspend me as a seller for doing what is asked of me than thats fine. Like usually, politics will come in to play and someone will change it or they wont and they will suspend a lot of sellers; interesting how ebay still cant get their own site right after all this time

No he didn't. But he did buy a different Robinson auto a few days before mine that it looks like he didn't pay for either.

Good point, this is what I was wondering about that no one else brought up.

As Ebay sees it you "the seller" are cancelling & it may seem like the buyer is the good guy here.

Every seller must establish what they deem 'quality service' and adhere to that standard. I want happy customers, even if I must go above and beyond the norm.

Gave the dude the benefit of the doubt and cancelled the transaction which he agreed to & sold the card to the next highest bidder.

Looking at his feedback more closely and his 30+ bid retractions I should have filed but I'm taking chezball & other's advice and just opening the non-payer cases from now on.
