Explanation when someone is banned.

I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky here for when people get banned. I was at another forum in the past and they would do it this way. Just a quick little sentence like "XXXX was banned for ripping" or "XXXX was suspended for accumilating too many infractions, date this suspension will be lifted XXXX". I have yet to see anybody suspended so maybe it doesn't even occur here, but I woke up this morning to find rodgers12 banned and I have no clue why...he seemed like a great member.

Really? 88 views and not even a coment from anybody? I don't even deserve a bs response from a mod? I would even take that at this point...but silence is just wrong.

The point of it all is that rodgers12 wasn't banned, he was just suspended for one day. Everyone saw the confusion that came out of the mislabel. If anything why not just have it say suspended instead of banned under their name?

I think this is a good idea. If I get banned then I would like to know what for and if somebody I'm in the middle of a deal with gets banned I'd like to know what for also.

Its always said banned, and it will always be banned. If someone is banned and you have a deal with them ongoing, PM iluvfish2 or another mod and they will provide other info of the member (email addy), or tell you why/date.

The mods have a stickied thread in the mod only section, but you don't need a whole thread, just a different subtitle than banned

I'd say change the title to suspended instead of banned, while I'm willing to say being suspended is my issue, being "banned" cost me 2 trades because people thought I was banned for good and did deals with other people in result.

I also had one member think I wasn't paying him because of it. Which brings me to my next point, I'd like to suggest if you're suspended or banned, that you have access to your inbox for at least a day, what if you owe people money like I did and the info is sitting in your inbox? Or you sold something and the buyers address is sitting in your inbox. It's unfair to other members. Fortunately the seller I owed money to had my email addy and was able to contact me and all worked out, but there's so many instances where one needs access to the inbox for any amount of reasons.

Denying access to the inbox doesn't just punish you, it punishes innocent members.

Note that I realize we shouldn't be getting in trouble in the first place, but just sayin...

The default setting sends the PM's to your email if you didn't change it, so the address isn't a problem, just not being able to respond is

Just got on and saw this thread. While there are some good suggestions here, there may be some software limitations that may inhibit some of them. I will look into seeing if we can automate the process to change the user status to either Banned or Suspended depending on the situation. Access to an inbox while suspended/banned may be more difficult. As I understand it, you are either a member with full access to everything or nothing. I will look into that as well though.

As far as a stickey that has a list of suspended/banned members, that is something we (mods and Pat) will have to discuss. I'm not sure if we want to make such a list public or not as it could open up a whole an of worms that none of us want to or have the time to handle. If anything changes, one of the other mods or myself will make everyone aware of it.

The stickied thread isn't the big deal, I was more focused on how a member who is suspended for only one day shows as banned. Because in my world, as I'm sure everyone else's, the term banned means a very specific thing. Thank you again Sir.

IT's pretty simple. Just add a letter/number code to the Banned
BannedA or Banned1
BannedB or Banned2

You would need no more than 5 different.

Then put a legend as a stickey telling people what the different letter/number codes stand for.

1 being minor- excessive bumping and other smaller infringements
Then go up to 5 being lifetime IP banishment for stealing and the like

That wouldn't help a whole lot since 95% of the time someone is suspended, and if it's banned for scamming everyone knows it, but it would be nice if the mods could edit the signature of the person of the ban and when they'd be back, or something

I wouldn't worry so much about someone else being banned or suspended. If people acted their age and kept things simple, no bans would happen!! what do ya'all think. Go ahead, point your fingers @ me but I doubt I would ever get banned without the help of someone else.

I think they should put the member's name in red so it stands out that they are no longer participating. They should also have different titles other than just BANNED because all bannings are all not on the same level. Banned sounds like its permanent when 99% of the time it's not around here. Here are some based on length of time sentenced :

When Banned for good (almost never happens but on that rare occasion) :
Dead to You
Silenced Forever

When gone for a week or two :
Raggin' (will clear up in a week)
In Rehab

When given a timeout for a few hours (can't believe they have this but it exists so it needs a title)
Skippy needed a nap
Thinking it over in the corner
Being disciplined... by a large Dutch woman
