Amazon is usually pretty cheap on xbox live memberships. If I remember correctly they are generally about $10 less than buying at a retail outlet i.e. Target/Wal-Mart.

You will love the online experience and it's worth every penny IMHO. GL and enjoy!

Go buy yourself a Family membership.

You get 4 accounts for 100.00 and it's good for a year.

Check out for cheap deal on the eBay Daily Deals. I bought a 3 pack of 12-month Gold Memberships for $100 a few months ago.

There's one guy on eBay who sells eBay cheaper than eBay but you'd have to Google his name on Yahoo to find it.

Sell your xbox - buy a ps3 - don't worry about paying for online gaming

Of course its free, with all 500 people who play online - who would want to pay for that?

Get what your friends have.

I get my gold sub from a friend who works at MSFT for cheap, so I don't have much for tips. The seasonal bundles which include a game, some MSPTs and usually a headset/gamepad are a pretty solid deal if you are looking for the other items as well.

@ rip+flip
PS3 was hacked by Anonymous 2 summers ago and shut the network down for a month or two. Not sure of the specifics but they were "mad about something" and targeted the PS3 network. I really don't think since PS3 buffed up their security there are a lot of issues with hackers.

@bradical
I think the 500 people comment is just a bit of an understatement.

@OP
Get what you want. Just throwing it out there that I have a PS3 and havent paid for online gaming in years. I also had an xbox 360 prior to my ps3 until I got the ring of death. Actually a lot more pleased with PS3 and not seeing the $49/yr come out of my checking account.

this is a great idea. i have a friend that does this with his girlfriend's account and two of his buddies. Though one of his buddies decided to be a jackass and got himself cut off of it for a bit, but still.

or, somebody mentioned Amazon. I usually renew through Amazon. if you get the actual "card" (usually make that order with a few books to lump everything together) it's cheaper. If you go with the instant code, it's the same as paying through Xbox Live.

these things are super bad news buddy. Find a way to hard-line in. I haven't met one person on a wireless connection that doesn't lag worse than my hard connection.

if the main router is super far away, get really long ethernet cables with mini connectors (all available at a Radio Shack) and run that sucker along the floorboard to your box.
