This is the Joe Jackson 1/1 cut signature card that will be awarded at the 2011 National Sports Collectors Convention. This is Joe's first ever cut signature card, which we expect to bring $60,000-$100,000 in the marketplace. It is available via a redemption program in 2010 Leaf Sports Icons Update packs.

I posted a comment anyone (perhaps a group) want to go in with me on presenting the "most complete" set at the nationals to claim the last (#4) clover. Everyone qualified for a clover gets some type of bounty (a case is the min); we can figure out how to split it at the national; however, everyone would get something.
This being said, you'd need to attend to the national, and respond with a list of whatever you have. I'm good for a couple cases or so, depending on doubles. Just let me know -- would really like to do this. Think it is a true win-win if we get to a high enough number in person. Thanks! ES

saw something on one of the shows on Discovery or whatever about Joe Jackson not being able to read or write to the point of not being able to write his own name? If so, what is the story behind this one?

There are only around 6 known examples of Joe Jackson's signature from his own hand. As I understand it, most of his autos were signed by his wife.
Someone above mentioned this auto might only be a 5 out of a 10. That would be pretty good for an auto this rare and extremely collectible. Even his wife's signature of his name commands over $1000!

looked around a bit, and it seems he has signed a few docs, all poorly written and most notorized...a lot are bonds for his brother Dave...not sure what that was all about...this looks like one from there.

Yes it is true he could not read or write which is why his signatures are very rare yet horrible looking. This is why his so called auto's command such a sticker price. The fact that there are literally an extremely limited supply out there makes this a must have for any serious baseball collector.
I wouldnt be surprised if this card gets much more than 100k especially if it has been authenticated. ES good luck brother. That card is gonna make someone faint thats for sure.

The first word doesn't look like France to me. If you look closely, you can see a very small amount of the letter before "rance", and it's NOT an "F". It looks more like an "A", especially if you compare it to the "A" in Recognizance.
Basically, this looks like a Bail Bond type of form. I believe Mindbinge is correct in what it is from. |

Here's a link to another story about the card, and it includes a picture of the original document that the autograph was taken from:

So in essence, each entrant will have at least a 25% chance of winning the Shoeless Joe Jackson card!

I think you are correct Wheeler. I was hoping for one of those Clovers, then hit that Babe Ruth Stamp and quit. It's very cool for the Hobby and for Baseball History fans to see an autograph like this surface. Gotta give credit to Leaf for this promotion. |
