Default Topps Issues “Nickname Letter Patches” List

Topps Issues “Nickname Letter Patches” List

The all-new 2009 Topps Baseball Series 1 is on shelves and the hobby edition is offering a unique way to collect the all-time greats of baseball.

Randomly inserted in boxes, are NICKNAME LETTER PATCHES sequentially numbered to 50. Each letter in a player’s nickname is represented…for example collectors can spell out Jackie Robinson’s nickname “J-A-C-K-I-E”. (image attached) All the manufactured letters are fashioned after the look and feel of the player’s original flannel jersey.

And for a political twist, there are nickname cards for President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

OOPS! Topps forgot to mention most of the hits will be in retail packs, the checklist is subject to change and we think they are #ed to 50, maybe it was 3050

But are the letters given different card numbers? Pee Wee Reese has 4 "E"s in his nickname so there are 200 "E" floating around, but are there 4 stamped 1/50 with the same card number on the back?

I agree - that is a good question. I know that in my quest to complere a NGATA RAVENS from the 07 SPA football set - all of the cards are #'d /70 ... In fact, I think I have two "A"s that are both 7/70 .. That would lead me to believe that there would be potentially 4 E's with the same number.
