National plans events for family entertainment
A new event that began last year at the National Sports Collectors Convention will be brought along to Cleveland. Sunday, Aug. 2 will be Cleveland Plain Dealer Family Day. A family of four will be able to enter the show for only $25, with tickets available at the I-X Center.
All attendees entering the National on Sunday will receive a free raffle drawing ticket. (VIPs and Super VIPs will receive these tickets when they pick up their gift bags.) The ticket can then be placed in the drawing box located in the Family Sports Arena Area directly in front of the Ferris Wheel. Drawings for great prizes will take place at 2 p.m. The Fun Zone, consisting of many of the major trading card manufacturers and distributors, will be manning tables set in front of the Ferris Wheel to hand out free prizes. The Fun Zone will open at noon and operate until 2 p.m., when the raffle begins. You must be present to win. Along with free Ferris Wheel rides, many of the National’s exhibitors will be set up in the Family Sports Arena running activities and providing giveaways geared toward families, as well.
Another special event will be the Kids Trade Table. Kids 12 and under can bring any of their cards and trade them for one of the National’s star cards – one for one. In addition, two former Cleveland Browns greats, five-time Pro Bowl running back Greg Pruitt (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) and Lee Suggs (12:30-2 p.m.) will be on hand to sign autographs. Free photos of both players will be supplied by NFL Players.
