Panini America Employee Cards Add Rarity, Fun to National Wrapper Redemption Set
Panini America Employee Cards Add Rarity, Fun to National Wrapper Redemption Set

July 31, 2012 at 11:10 AM

When the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention begins tomorrow in Baltimore, Panini America will give new meaning to the term “business cards.” And depending on your perspective, it’s a development that will either set collecting back a few decades or provide a fun, scarce addition for any Panini America fan.

The history-making (or is that history-mocking?) Rookie Cards of Panini America Marketing Manager Scott Prusha, Hobby Sales Manager Rodney Alsup and, yes, even yours truly, will be included via special instant-win redemption cards in the company’s wrapper-redemption program.

In addition to being extremely limited (just 20 of each were produced for the show), the cards include over-sized prime pieces of work-worn (seriously) Rated Rookie T-shirt and ample signing space. And the only way to get the card — and get it signed — is by redeeming an instant-win card in person at the Panini America booth during the National.

At the very least, the conversation pieces should make for a fun few days in Baltimore. And they also gave us the perfect opportunity to create the following video showing you exactly how a memorabilia card is made.

We hope you enjoy the video and the gallery. We look forward to seeing you in Baltimore — or online in the event that you can’t make it.

First, the video . . .

Now, the gallery . . .

Pretty cool video. I've always wondered how the patch cards were made.

This blows my mind.

I can't imagine thinking that I am so important that I am going to make cards of myself, then include them as part of a wrapper redemption, and assume that people will be happy that this is what they get.

Just when you thought Panini redemptions cards couldn't possibly get any worse.....

I smell a bonfire coming....

cool video. I wonder how many of the employees enjoy collecting cards too. I was impressed by the gal cutting up those t-shirts. She sure was surgical with those scissors.....

Enjoy the process, but I gotta gag on the rest...

vikingfan101 07-31-2012 10:27 PM

That is pretty dang stupid. Can't wait to see some Hackler MOJOZZ on Ebay!

celtics 07-31-2012 11:27 PM

I'm happy we have a Hackler rookie card before we have Anthony Davis, looks to me like Panini has their priorities straight. I think Panini did an awsome job with the 2012 National plans, probably the best of all the companies but these should be employee cards FOR the employees, no collector is going to want to pull one of these.

So is the Hackler RC like the equivalent of Newton, Luck or Harper for employee cards? Lol, what a joke.

natbornkiller 08-01-2012 12:15 AM

considering there are idiots who buy topps employee cards in the form of gimmicks in gypsy queen , triple threads and ginter

I may be in the minority here, but I like what they're doing.

It's not like they're taking away hits and adding the employee cards instead. It's more likely that these were an after-thought, and in a pack where you normally wouldn't have received an auto or GU... you now have this.

Does it have long-term value? Probably not. But it's a pretty cool card as a bonus.
