Default SportsCardNation.com: Weekly Update (7/26/2009)

Sunday, July 26, 2009
SportsCardNation!

Here's what is new this week:
2009 Score Inscriptions and 2009 Press Pass Legends Football should both be decent products which hold up above factory cost and have a shot at some upside, but that is not the focus this week. All of our attention for the new releases is on 2009 Showcase Racing. This is a Press Pass version of Exquisite/National Treasures. Allocations were tiny. We are hearing some distributors received less than 2 cases when normally they get 20+. This product has been short for some time from the factory on the presell basis but it doesn't really hit home until the product actually comes to market. Racing fans are just that...FANATIC. When they set their sites on a product, they chase it like no other sports group. We at SCN feel that this product should be bought anywhere in the $250 range if you can find it. Boxes should move up to $300 per in less than a few weeks. This product has a shot at being one of those Elite type cases a year from now similar to Topps UFC 1. You could see $5000+ per case and boxes in the $400+ range pretty easily. There has never been anything like this for racing and there's just not enough product to meet demand.
As for the rest of the Market, Here's what we are seeing:

Not sure if its tied to the stock market rally the past week but prices have firmed up across the board on presells, current products, and closeouts. Almost everything new in the market has been under-ordered which creates some quick upside when the market turns. We started seeing the turn last week and it has continued this week on a broad range of products as stores and wholesalers have been chasing certain items. The following products are moving higher:

BASEBALL
2009 & 2008 Topps Allen & Ginter
2009 Topps Finest
2009 UD SPX
2009 UD USA
2009 Topps 2
2008 UD SP Authentic
2009 Topps Heritage
2009 UD Goudey
2009 Razor Letterman
2008 UD Sweet Spot
2009 UD Series 1 & 2
2008 Playoff Prime Cuts
HOCKEY
2008/09 UD BAP Signature
2008/09 UD SP Authentic
2008/09 UD Ultimate Collection
BASKETBALL
2008/09 UD Black
FOOTBALL
2008 UD SP Authentic
2008 UD Exquisite
2009 UD Icons
OTHERS
2009 UFC 1 & 2
2009 Razor Historical Cuts
Next week is the National Convention in Cleveland where we should see a lot of products shift in price. Since 2008/09 UD Exquisite (Due out 08/12) and 2008/09 UD The Cup Hockey (Due out 08/06) will not be released until after the show, that leaves a lot of extra cash for buyers to chase other products. Sportkings C should make a solid debut and get a jump start in the high end market. It is going to be interesting to see how the collectors money is allocated and what gets pushed higher.
Our gut feeling is that 2009 Showcase Racing will make a huge run during the show. Everyone will be going into the show looking for that product. It only takes a few dealers to walk around and buy up everything that's available. This tend to happen a lot at larger shows. We also think any and all 2009 Topps UFC 1 will be sought after and long gone before the official doors open to the public. The focus this year will be on the super premium High end products that are tough to find. Look for spikes higher on 2008/09 UD Black Basketball, any Exquisite Basketball and Exquisite Football products, 2008 Prime Cuts Baseball, any Cup Hockey products, and any National Treasures Football products. The high end will be the focus at the show.

That's it for this week. We have updated the website at SportsCardNation.com. Market Reports, Card Values, and the Hottest Auctions Online today. with a ton of new Product and Manufacturer updates this week. Check out our reviews this week and please email us if you have any suggestions.

This week at SCN, we have reviewed the following products. Many of these products have just come LIVE! Our goal is to give you the most up to date website for market conditions and information in the HOBBY!

That's kinda how the UFC stuff is. The single cards don't go for much, but prices on boxes is insane.. I'll never be able to quite understand this hobby, but this insanity sure makes it kinda fun at times.

As soon as people realize this, box and case prices will come back down to earth.

Yep...once people bust at $250 a box and lose $150 a box across the board, think they will want to buy more?

Just took a peak and wow, resale on this is worse than NT or Exquisite. Dale Earnhart SR multicolor swatches of stuff barely breaking $100? most hits in the 20-30 range, ouch.

Yes but dont forget everyone that got this busted it and threw it on ebay. Not every collector has deep pockets. Its supply and demand..way more supply than demand. Plus I partially think some collectors are holding onto their $$ waiting to see what happens this week at the National.
