Default Disney Purchases Marvel Comics

Maybe they can buy Topps and Upper Deck next month..

LOS ANGELES The Walt Disney Co. said Monday it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Many of them, including favorites such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, were co-created by the comic book legend Stan Lee.

WOW! This really sucks! Now the X-Men & The Incredibles can do a movie together.

Whats wrong with the Incredible X-men On a serious note, this does seem to make a push towards Topps and "kid friendly" products.

I guess I'd rather see Marvel go to Disney as apposed to anyone else, but personally, I'd rather see them both be separate. It's got to be hard to sell over 5000 characters that you created.

You know Disney's stock is about to shoot way up.

Disney does an incredible job of managing and marketing their characters and this will only expand their options. Great acquisition by Disney.

I completely agree that it was a great move by Disney. I only hope it was good for Marvel and all of their 5000 characters as a whole. Marvel has done a great job at marketing their own characters and increasing shareholder value.

I can see it now, Wolverine teams up with Hanna Montana to save the world from gas guzzling cars by putting on a benefit concert. Wolverine donates his side burns and Hanna sings her number #1 hit "His sideburns have more talent than me".

the theme park angle of this is really interesting, since universal studios currently has 100s of millions invested in marvel themeing and rides in the USA and japan that directly compete with disney parks. universal/islands of adventure in FL has a whole "land" dedicated to marvel, including an elaborate spider man ride that is one of the most popular non-disney rides in the world. not sure how that is going to work out.

In this article it says the theme parks will be unaffected.

Disney acquiring Marvel Entertainment; popular Universal rides likely unaffected : Nation : TCPalm
