Default New Survey Finds Sports Memorabilia a Turnoff to Many Women

New Survey Finds Sports Memorabilia a Turnoff to Many Women

Part of the fun of being a sports collector is proudly showing off your best stuff. But for all the male hobbyists out there who turn to their collection as home decor, here's a warning: doing so may be hazardous to your love life.

A recent survey of 1,071 North American homeowners revealed that 39 percent of women found sports memorabilia to be a turnoff. The report, which is backed by paint company KILZ and is in its fifth year, also found that 63 percent of female respondents felt the decorating style of a guy says something about his maturity and personality.

The larger finding of the study was that a large percentage of people would rather spend money on redecorating or renovating their homes than on expensive gifts or luxury items, an attitude that HGTV personality and KILZ endorser Lisa LaPorta chalks up to a change in priorities brought on by the struggling economy. Half of those surveyed also said they would change their decor to impress a prospective new love interest, meaning a fair number of guys would consider putting their sports collectibles away for the right girl.

There is hope for the collecting set, however. LaPorta suggests picking out the best few pieces of memorabilia and having them professionally framed or matted. That way they give off more of an artsy feel instead of appearing like spare parts of an intimidating stash.

The report didn't address the question in reverse, presumably figuring that most males would be okay with a female who had a few signed mini helmets over the mantle.

Guess thats why I have my basement! But then again, marry the right woman, and its all good. I could go Steelers colors in my living room (or bedroom) and she'd be fine with that.
