Default Michael Jordan Memorabilia Gets Personal

Michael Jordan Memorabilia Gets Personal

A collection of personal sports items belonging to Michael Jordan and some LeBron James signed memorabilia found an audience in Chicago.

Michael Jordan collectors looking for something completely different were in luck when Hunt Auctions offered up several dozen Jordan pieces that went beyond the usual autographs and basketball cards.

The event took place live at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago. The items in Michael Jordan's 50+ lot collection represented his substantial time on the golf course. While not every piece of equipment was employed by the basketball legend, some golf clubs and bags show substantial use. A couple of MJ's golf bags sold for $3737 and $3680 respectively, a figure which included Hunt Auctions' 15% buyer's premium.

The auction was jointly sponsored by Upper Deck Authenticated, which has had a long-standing relationship with Jordan.

An autographed 1992-93 Jordan Bulls professional model home jersey was the most sought after item. It sold for $8050.

Some pieces were tied to Jordan's appearance on the 1992 US Olympic Dream Team. A warm-up jacket, signed by Jordan, sold for $6900, while his two ID cards from the Barcelona games brought nearly $10,000 combined.

Two pair of game-worn, signed LeBron James Nike shoes also sold, including a pair from a January game played just after the election of President Obama. James signed the shoes with a "Barack Obama, 44th President" notation. The pair brought $6900 while another pair, worn in March, brought $7475.

The top-selling item in the auction was a 1975 Spirits of St. Louis jersey, game-worn by Rudy Hackett. The white and red vintage shirt sold for $12,650.

A 1961-62 Fleer basketball set, with many graded cards (EX-MT overall) sold for $5462.
