If you're relatively young and like teaching, at all, become a teacher in a public school. You only work 182 days or so a year and have benefits and a pension. I started late but still it's a great job. I get just about every regular holiday you can think of off, and more.

I'm an engineer, starting to look for full time jobs. Got a bunch of friends who teach. It does have a lot of nice benefits.

teaching also has a bunch of cons:

"You only work 182 days or so a year" this is time actually @ the school

but you aren't mentioning the OTHER 182 days a year you spend working at home, writing lesson plans, grading papers, preparing for the FCAT, etc..

I agree that teachers have side work but after a while you get into a routine. I'd much rather be grading a test while watching the Jets game than being at a workplace.
I'm spoiled since I teach computers at a residential special ed school. I don't have any dealings with parents, just social workers when there's reason to contact them.
