Career Change Pays Off for Card Seller

Leaving a software company to sell baseball cards worked out OK for one Ohio dealer.

He has no brick-and-mortar store. No cash register to man or potential shoplifters to monitor.

Dean Hanley, owner of Dean's Cards, has built his business online.

The operation has been a full-time venture for most of this decade after Hanley saw tech firms cutting staff just after the dot-com boom. His MBA had to be good for something, though. Hanley took his small baseball card business and turned it into his full-time occupation, pouring hours into building his stock, finding new customers and providing good service.
