Actually, they destroyed the non-auto metal cards. They never said they would destroy the leftover auto cards.
However, they did say that they would never offer them for sale at a price lower than their initial prices on eBay. Since this promotion is not technically selling the cards they seem to be in the clear on that one.

Matt, I don't know if I would call it sarcasm, but I will say up front that I am not a big fan of what they are doing. I asked about them promising not to sell for less than their initial offering on another site and this is the response I received:
