Upper Deck Stands By Tiger Woods
Upper Deck officials on Tuesday morning announced that the company stands in full support of the embattled Tiger Woods and will continue fulfilling an exclusive relationship with the golfing superstar that’s been in place since 2001. “Upper Deck will maintain its exclusive agreement with Tiger in both our sports cards and memorabilia categories and we look forward to his eventual return to the PGA Tour,” said Richard McWilliam, Upper Deck’s CEO and Founder. “Tiger and his family have our full support.” Woods alone helped Upper Deck launch the mainstream golf trading card category in 2001 and his signed memorabilia has been integral to the success of Upper Deck Authenticated in recent years. While I agree with Indy, I don't think these sponsors should drop Tiger, as he still is one of the greatest athletes of all time. It's almost like when the stock market crashes, you don't just bite and take your loss, you hold on for the long term. I feel that Tiger is going to come back much better that before and have a great comeback, and the companies that drop him will regret their decisions.

Ultimately, it's up the public anyway. They can plaster O.J. Simpson all over the next football product if they want, doesn't mean people will buy it.

UD can't really afford to let one of their exclusive guys go. He's going to help sell their other products, and if they dumped him, there would be a good chance another card company would snatch him up (and possibly the PGA license) and we'd have another golf product finally.

I'm going to say this just because... Do you guys think Tiger could play baseball and play it well? How about basketball, football or hockey? I know golfers are athletes, but my 75 year old Grandpa can still play golf. You won't catch him running up and down the basketball court though. I have a picture somewhere of my 3-year old son hitting a golf ball. He wasn't very good at shooting baskets or catching footballs at that age. ![]() (all in good fun)
