Default Spoiler Alert: Panini America Offers a Look Inside 2014 Industry Summit Black Boxes

Spoiler Alert: Panini America Offers a Look Inside 2014 Industry Summit Black Boxes
Mar 14th 2014, 18:13, by Tracy Hackler

With the 2014 Industry Summit set to begin on Sunday, Panini America officials — including promo-project point man Scott Prusha — have steadfastly been putting the finishing touches on the legendary Black Boxes that have come to virtually define one of the sports collectibles industry’s most important events.
The showstopping Black Boxes provide an explosive conclusion to Panini America’s Tuesday corporate address every year; so expect the hobby to be gripped by some seismic shifts originating from Las Vegas roughly four days from right now. Once you see the hits we have in store for Summit attendees this year, you’ll know exactly why.

To be sure, the laborious, hand-picked process of assembling these Black Box beauties is a massive undertaking. The payoff, of course, is that it produces some of the most gorgeous must-have cards in the hobby every year. For an exclusive sneak peek at just some of the prime-memorabilia and autograph 1/1s dotting the 2014 Industry Summit Black Box checklist, check out the massive gallery below.
And be sure to stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance in the coming days for additional coverage of our plans to once again steal the show at the Industry Summit.
The cards used to create the Black Box hits include small quantities of overruns from Panini America’s roster of products printed specifically for inclusion in Black Boxes and for other hobby marketing promotions. It’s something like a multisport Greatest Hits collection incorporating highlights of the year’s best Panini America sets. Every Black Box built for the 2014 Industry Summit will include a slabbed prime memorabilia or autographed card numbered to only one. In addition, Panini America officials are also including Summit-exclusive 2013 Select Football Green Prizms in the Black Boxes, too.
Panini America has been wowing Summit attendees since delivering the first Black Boxes in 2002. Now the signature end to the company’s Summit-wide address, “Black Box” day has become one of the highlights of the show. After looking at the following images, you’ll understand why.

Are these cards that missed pack out and stamped 'Black Box', or are these specially made for the Black Boxes?

These kinds of incentives are part of building distribution relationships. However, I really don't see how bragging about the program is smart. It's one of those things that generally annoys the end customers. "Ooh, here's all this cool stuff we could have put in our products but didn't."

Right and even this won't make distributors happy after they brought back MAP last fall, just in time for their never-ending football product dump.

Sooo, Panini MAPP pricing is back?

Panini is a joke. They will put together things like this but refuse to respond to or take care of their consumers. They even said themselves "The stores the buy the product are the customer and they have to stand behind them instead".

Another reason I will not buy their products anymore.

Don't feel too bad. Most of the larger patches are event worn stuff. So only aesthetically pleasing. I didn't do any research on the autos but I figure they would be fulfilled redemptions. If customers are still waiting on them, that's another story.

They do it and are proud of it. A real bunch of d-bags over there and we continue to buy their junk and wait for years for redemptions. Sad.....

yes... and with no apologies.

beyond the general scams they run, enough of us have had similarly bad experiences with Panini to justify that feeling. when you treat people, particularly your customers, poorly it'll eventually catch up with you. and it's at least partially caught up with Panini. they lost their NHL license and it will probably lead to people losing jobs. and i have zero sympathy for them.

I have sympathy for anyone that loses their job. Its never the person that makes the horrible decisions or treats customers poorly, it will be some little guy that can not afford to lose their jobs. The real idiots at panini are the ones in charge....

As I have mentioned in previous posts gentlemen, Panini cares about their "customers" the shops that buy their product and not about the consumers (You and I). Those are words from their management themselves saying that they need to protect their customers because they keep them in business.

This is why I prefer to work with Topps or Upper Deck, companies that put out their best products for their consumers.

If you've ever listened to topps they say the same thing. they care very little about the secondary market.

Holy revisionist history about topps/UD on their "quality" products. I'm sure you'll tell us all their redemption program is superior.

I don't hate on Panini too much (I actually like a lot of their products) but for this to be a 1 of 1 they could have gotten some nicer patches from Hibbert and Ewing jerseys.

so basically you're justifying Panini's bad behavior by pointing to the bad behavior of Topps/UD???

i don't understand Panini fanboys.
