My favorite Topps card is my 2005 Topps Chrome Red Xfractor R.A. Dickey #351 Serial 09/25 card.
The reason for this is because when I was young and started collecting baseball cards I came across a 1997 Bowman R.A. Dickey rookie card (I know Bowman is owned by Topps, but I am playing it safe ). I was so excited that there was a pro ball player with the same last name as mine (silly, i know). I watched him go up and down between the minors and majors ever since. I have been working for the New York Mets for a little over a year now and when I heard that we signed R.A. Dickey, I again, was like a fat kid in a candy store Don't have a pic of mine since I am at work

Well this 1958 Topps Ted Williams #1 has a very long story to go with it but I will give you the cliffnotes.
The card was left to me by a family member back in 1992. Well it started me in the hobby. I was 13 years old. Well back in those days my family was less than middle class, but a bit above poverty. Well in 1993 right before school started my brother and I each got $50 to go school shopping. Well two pairs of pants and two shirts later we were broke and that was all my parents were going to give us and we weren't asking. We both needed new shoes and it was the only thing had that had any value. So we went to a card shop in West Chester, PA. The man pointed out it was off-centered, but everything else looked good. Back then the card booked for around $300. So first he offered $50 for the card and I knew we need $70 for both of us to get new shoes. So I said I really needed $75. Well I got that amount. When my dad found out I had sold it about 6 months later...I had welt marks on my *ss for a month. He went to the card shop to purchase it back but he had already sold it for $450, and went on to comment on it was one of the best '58 Williams #1 he had ever seen. So here is a picture I borrowed from ebay: ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

![]() This card holds a lot of special meaning to me. I got it in 1988 when I was 12. This was a very hard year for my family. My father was murdered in February of 88, and my brother and I went to live with our grandparents. Our grandfather was a hard nosed Ex Drill Instructor, but he really took to being our father figure. He very quickly took to collecting baseball cards with me, buying packs all the time. For some reason the 87 topps Bo card never came out of packs for me. One day after school he picked us up and took us to the local card shop where he surprised me with a $10 purchase of that card in a fancy plaque. Still one of the best days of my life. I now have over 400 of that one card. But the original one shown is in the original plaque hanging on the wall here in my office.

My favorite. The first card I bought myself after saving up my allowance as a kid.

I am a huge Andre Dawson fan. I remember his first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame. I just knew he would get voted in on his first ballot. Ooops was I wrong. Then I thought he would definitely get in on his 2nd time. Ummmm wrong again. After that I decided that when the Hawk finally got inducted, I would be there in person to see it. Well, it took Andre a couple of more tries. Finally, he was voted in this year. That was great, but I had my wedding to pay for. I did not think I would have the money for both. Luckily my wife said we could go to Cooperstown to see Andre inducted for my honeymoon.

My story is posted elsewhere on BO but basically, I bought 3 boxes for $58... TOTAL.
I received the boxes on Friday, got home, opened two and found some sketches and some common autos. The third box sat on my floor Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night because I planned to list it for sale to make up my losses. On Monday, I decided to go for broke. So, I'm ripping packs left and right, the wrappers and gum are flying everywhere. My wife sees this and decides to jump in. We're ripping and it's chaos. I am sporting through a handful of cards and I see something different. It's got Harrison Ford's face on it. Shift a little more. It's got blue ink on it. A moment to consider this strange card. It's ... I scream like a schoolgirl and my wife jumps across the room. When we have calmed down, I spend the rest of the night numb while wifey tries to find a value online. That was a good day.

This is an anchor for my PC. From Indiana Jones Topps Heritage: Adam Hughes AH! Indy sketch. The reason this card holds meaning to me besides the great regard I have for Adam's work is the fact that it came from my 8th and final(?) case and the last box in the 8th case. After so much disappointment that I'm sure many Indy fans can relate to from mediocre sketch work to dud boxes, finding a true gem of a sketch is a true thrill and the main reason I continue on in this great hobby. Being a child of the 80's the Indy series is what Star Wars is for some of the 70's crowd and is the main reason for developing and maintaining a personal collection
