Default SCN Highlights 06/06/08

A very light week for new releases. The only new product this week was 2008 Sage AUTO Football. Similar format as previous years with one Auto or Jersey per pack. Usually you pull about 8 Autos and 4 Jerseys in a box but this year there are many more lower numbered Autos in the set.

As mentioned last week, 2008 UD USA Team Baseball is on a tear. Started at around $900 a Case. Up to $1200+ this week. These will dry up soon and trend even higher. The break is just tremendous. Also on an upswing is 2008 Playoff Prestige Football. Started the week around $900 and currently over $1100 per case. The next play would be 2008 Donruss Elite Football, if you can find any, which ships next week. Also moving higher this week were the 2008 Just Minors Mystery Jerseys. Going from $110 a Box up to $150+. Everything 2005 with Jay Bruce also is spiking higher. The guy can't keep hitting .500 but he's getting all the publicity. The 2005 products are already very high but could make another move up if you can find any. The tough one to get is the 2005 Topps Chrome Update & Highlights Baseball. Seems like Topps & UD are both jumping on the Jay Bruce Bandwagon with redemption card programs. Check out all the articles on our website at SportsCardNation.com. Now for the part that everyone really wants to know. What's going to move up in the coming weeks? (In no particular order.) Going forward, we are going to name this the "HEATSEEKER". These are items that have hit our screens with either unusual buying activity or information that has been floating around that may not be known to most collectors.

"HEATSEEKERS" for this Week:

1) 2008 Donruss Elite Football - If 2008 Prestige Football is a $90-95 box, Elite Football will be a $110-$115 box in a matter of weeks. Playoff has produced a limited amount of the early releases this year which is why the pricing has spiked. Prestige Football usually has a cap on it based on content. This is the highest Prestige has ever sold for and we at SCN feel that the next product to move up will be Elite Football. Collectors will only justify paying up to a certain price for Prestige especially as higher end products are released.

2) 2008 UD Legendary Cuts Baseball - We have been hearing for weeks now that something is up with this product. Lower case production/distributors cuts/added content. It all points to this product taking a big jump when it comes live next week. Let's just say SCN is hearing a buzz and based on the Mystery Cut checklist + others on UD's website, which are 1 per case, there may be only about 1000 cases made if you do the math. That's much less than even the 2001 issue.

3)2008 Topps Allen Ginter Baseball - Topps has added a lot of content that was announced this week. Collectors that follow this product also know that in years past there are many surprises after the product is released. Expect the same again this year. There is only upside on these which are currently at the $900 range. A & G could pop to $100-$110 a Box as it does every year.

4)2008 Bowman Chrome Baseball - Pure winner every year. This product never disappoints in price after it comes live. Rookies are always added to the checklist as the season moves on. One of the best pure spec products that are produced. Ask most collectors a month after the product is live and they had wished they bought it on the presell. Look back at 2007, 2006, 2005 and so on.

5) 2008 Topps Triple Threads Baseball - Another product that always moves up. The price point per case seems high but breaks down $2700/18 and it's $150 a Box. Previous years have traded up to $225 and $195 at their peaks. More added content this year with the CMG Vets will add some huge pulls.

6) 2008 Topps Chrome Football - Good crop or bad crop, Chrome Football always moves up by the time Sept/Nov rolls around. It is a great break for the price-point. Collectors are willing to shell out $75 a Box in a normal year and $100 a Box in a good year. Presells are around $60 so there is much upside.

We're also getting some inkling on a few other products to hit the HEATSEEKER. Nothing has hit the radar with enough conviction to make us feel strong enough to mention. However, we will list them and possibly do a follow up if the action hits our screens: 2008 Tri Star Projections Series 2, 2008 UD Goudey Baseball, 2007/08 Topps Letterman Basketball, 2008 Donruss Threads Football, 2008 Score Football Racks and Jumbos, 2008 Topps Star Wars Clone Wars.

Check out our reviews this week and please email us if you have any suggestions.

This week at SCN, we have reviewed the following product. Our goal is to give you the most up to date website for market conditions and information in the HOBBY!

2008 Sage AUTO Football

Looking into NEXT WEEK, the following products are Tentatively Scheduled to be Reviewed:

I enjoy reading them when I get them. I also like that Chris (most likely coming from Tri star ) is putting out weekly updates on guys in the minors that are doing well.
