TRISTAR MiLB NEWS YOU CAN USE
Pitchers and Hitters Alike: A Week of Dominating Performance Michael Burgess: RF, Washington Nationals In an All-Star shortened week in low Class A, Burgess posted numbers most could only dream about compiling in a full seven-day stretch. The 19-year-old right fielder batted .586 with 3 HR and 5 runs scored, bringing his home run total to 15 for the season. This went along with a .706 OBP and an incredible 1.333 slugging percentage. Playing for the Hagerstown Suns in the Class A South Atlantic League, Burgess has showcased his power-hitting abilities all season long, earning him an invitation to last week’s Home Run Derby. To no surprise, Burgess added a Home Run Derby title to his already dominating week. On June 11th, Erbe threw seven hitless innings while striking out nine. Tuesday, he backed up his stellar performance by yielding only one hit and zero walks over seven scoreless innings, not to mention he struck out a Carolina League season-best 12 batters. The 20-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance over his professional career. If he keeps up this hot streak, don’t expect to see him pitching in Frederick for long. TRISTAR CARD CHECKLIST 2007 Elegance #45 2008 PROjections #188 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel Moskos: LHP, Pittsburgh Pirates After a brief adjustment period switching to the starting rotation, the lefty Moskos has dominated the high Class A Carolina League. With a hard slider and low-to-mid 90s fastball, Moskos has been virtually un-hittable over his past four starts. Moskos has gone 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA of late, and delivered his best performance of the year June 14th, striking out seven and allowing only 3 hits in seven scoreless innings. Clearly, the twenty-two-year-old has adjusted to life as a starter. Davis and Saunders Tearing Up the Minors Chris Davis: 1B, Texas Rangers Unless the 22-year-old slugger gets called up to Arlington, Davis may very well be the frontrunner for Minor League Player of the Year. Davis perpetuated the total package he brings to the table last week, as he batted .400 with 5 HR, 2 2B, and 12 RBIs. These numbers went along with 9 runs and a .967 slugging percentage. His 14-game hitting streak was snapped Thursday, largely due to the 2 BBs pitchers willingly surrendered to him. It gets better. Playing for Triple-A Oklahoma, Davis is batting .338 for season while leading the minors in RBIs and runs, ranking third in home runs and extra-base hits, and placing second in total bases. Those are mind-blowing stats for a youngster riding a 23-game on-base streak. TRISTAR CARD CHECKLIST 2008 PROjections High #'s #283 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Saunders: CF, Seattle Mariners Power-hitting lefty Michael Saunders had a week to remember. In addition to being called up to Triple-A Tacoma, the twenty-one-year-old batted .435 this past week, reaching base 43.5% of the time. In addition to his impressive average and OBP, Saunders ripped 5 2B and a HR, helping him knock in 4 RBIs and score an additional 10 runs. As this athletic youngster continues to mature and grow into his body, improved power and plate awareness will help develop an already proven baseball player into a tremendous big-leaguer.
