Sportkings Series B: Founding Father Eugen Sandow
Sportkings Series B: Founding Father Eugen Sandow
Each week for the next month leading up to the launch of Sportkings, we'll pull the curtain back a bit on some of the more interesting, compelling and downright fascinating aspects of the highly anticipated follow-up to last year's smashing return.
This week we take a look at pioneering bodybuilder Eugen Sandow of the Victorian era. As recognition of his contribution to the sport of bodybuilding, a bronze statue of Sandow that represents the most prestigious prize in professional bodybuilding has been presented to the Mr. Olympia contest winner since 1977. This statue is simply known as "The Sandow." Known as the "Father of Modern Bodybuilding," Sandow transformed bodybuilding from the occupation of a few faithful devotees to the esteemed sport that it is today.
So, what else is in store for Sportkings Series B, which releases July 28?
• Forty percent more autographs this year than last year. Each box will include three packs, with each pack delivering three cards: One insert (either a hard-signed autograph card, an autographed memorabilia card or a game-used memorabilia card) and two base cards (standard sized or a miniature version).
• Sportkings Series B will feature six unique cut signature insert sets, including Founding Fathers, Presidents and Players, Vintage PaperCuts, Sportkings at the Movies, PaperCuts and 1933 The Year. Among the most notable legends with cut signatures in the product are the Marquis de Queensberry (whose rules are credited with creating the sport of boxing), Eugen Sandow (the father of modern bodybuilding), James Naismith, Robert Jones Jr., Jack Dempsey and Babe Didrikson.
• The Sportkings at the Movies insert is bolstered by rare autographs from the likes of Tommy Lee Jones ("Cobb"), Gary Cooper ("Pride of the Yankees") and Errol Flynn ("Gentleman Jim").
• Also look for the return of the popular Made To Order program, redemption cards for eight different original 1933 Goudey Sport Kings cards, and even a one-of-one card redeemable for an authentic unopened 1933 Goudey pack.
