My case arrived today. As a collector first and foremost I have to say this is the best sketch based set to date. Rittenhouse and the artists have raised the bar so high now it's going to be tough to top. The insert sets are gorgeous and I spent more time looking at the base cards than any set in recent memory. I did pretty good with my sketches, the Ryan Orosco Spider-Woman is especially superb, the colors jump right out and everything has a glossy finish.

And the insert sets... those embossed cards were a royal pain to scan, they move around so easily that every time I closed the lid on the scanner they jumbled up a bit.

I completely agree with your assessment of the product.
I loved the base set and the sketches were awesome.
Too bad the product didn't sell worth a crap for the non-collector.
I lost about 50% on a case and that was after beating the odds.
I pulled 13 sketches in the case including some artist with a
low # of sketches.

I guess this economy has killed the market for cards.

Ouch, I hope you didn't over-pay for your case. I managed to slip in for $750 after the allocation was announced (I was originally quoted $680 before the allocation) and I'm surprised to see the most recent ending prices for cases at $840-$900. Sketches are an oddity, value depends not just on who did it, how many they did and the number they did, the character depicted and the pose will play a huge role, the more well known characters like Sue Storm, Rogue, Elektra, Black Cat, Storm, Scarlet Witch and Enchantress will usually command a premium over other lesser known characters especially in a sexy pose (I pity anyone who pulls a Big Bertha sketch, lol)

I'll do the same because of it's limited print run, but in the mean time, I'm going to hold onto my sealed cases until they climb above $1500 each.
