Default 1909 T58 Fish Series cards

1st to point out.
These cards were issued by the American Tobacco Company in different brands. Some brands did not do so well and the cards were changed with other cards meaning some "back" versions are considerably more rare than others. I know a cycleback T58,regardless of the fish or a Polar bear back, would be 30-40 for a card nearly torn in half
I have Caporal Backs ( common) Piedmont Backs (Semi-Common) and Sovereign Backs( Slightly rare) and very few of the latter.

In Europe a card is a card. They seem to try to place no value on 1 card over another, even if public demand is more focused towards a specific card. I do try to buy in Europe, but American Tobacco cards in themselves are expensive because they are American issue

These came from 1 collector who was/is working on the T58 Master set...yes they do that crap in Tobacco as well. He said there are 6 different backs and 100 cards in the set for 600 card total. He is in the 570 card range, best of luck to him on finding that Polar Bear shark...somehow I think it would be a 100.00+ card due to the fact maybe 100 exist

I digress !

Msot of these are 3.00 cards in Caporal and 4.00 cards in Piedmont backs,Sovereign backs are more and there are about 11 cards that are more than 3.00. A good example would be the Shark or Porpoise. Both in Sweet Caporal backs are 5.00ea,Piedmont 7.00 and if I had Sovereign, 10.00
Something you cannot see, nor will my scanner capture is the ...paint. Almsot all of these have a layer of silver paint where dull colored scales would be . It is beautiful. I tried to capture it with a phot with no luck either.
Needless to say,the cards do look a LOT better in person than in the scans.
Very few are Fair with NONE being visual grade poor. A considerable number of these are VG/EX which would PSA 5-6 and a few would be EX+ which would PSA at 7-8.
I am an ex-baseball guy and trying to give a grade reference is difficult. I read the guidelines for tobacco and grading is simple, but to try and make it clear, i tend to make PSA references. I hope no one takes that as a challenge to toss out the "You can't see a card based on what it MAY grade for" which is NOT what I am doing, simply giving a comparison between a visual grade and how it transforms to a professional grade.
and...I digress again
Here are the fish
Uploading 10 in thumbnail form and linking the folder for the rest

Folder is here

Pms are fine, feel free to post questions as well
Hoping to generate more interest and get us a real-life Tobacco group going here on Blowout

I was gonna go to that show, but it was the wifes birthday that weekend. Those cards are really nice. I enjoyed your other thread about cleaning them to.

Yah
The cleaning has been....interesting to say the least.
Had some ups and downs.
Found out that applying pressure forward on damp, vinatge paper will pull free sections :0
Found out oversoaking will cause parts of the paper with decay in them to blow apart.
heh
But it's all learning.
I may step out of my realm of what is and is not card altering. Seems,so I am told, a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with water to blend it thinner can be used to remove oils and stains that are set on top of cards or embedded in textured areas.
I do not see an issue with clearning tbh,but when someone bleaches a card to make it look near new...that's wrong. i mean PSA/SCG/BCCGS they will hammer you 2-3 grades for oil and dirt so people do bleach cards and they do it for money not for posterity. So that is something I do have an issue with

Glad you like it iluvfish
I am also really enjoying this area of the hobby that I barely even knew existed

Per fish...
I cant win one of these to save my life

I wont lie...I cant afford the following

At 2500-4500 for a banner that is 8 inches wide and 14 inches tall.....pass :P

But...

I think I would mortgage my house to buy the following if I saw it

yellow Kid is considered to be the 1st Cartoon character ever drawn

I do have some vintage baseball though from these pick-ups,but I think I will end up selling them do to the over-all lack of interest in baseball now....maybe i will buy more fish, I love the fish

One of those ebay finds due to poorly worded listings

Agreed. Thanks for posting. So interesting after seeing nothing but sports and the usual non-sports day in and day out.

Well
Help me keep the flow going
Spend a few bucks :P
I told John I would like to see a tobacco community form out of this interest
More attractive cards that do not devalue. No monthly price guides,no price spikes, big changes.
I am still learning myself,over-paid a LOT of times lol
