I feel like a fool. I have two cases coming soon bought on presell. I thought Topps would give a proper send off to Indy with this Masterpiece set but I guess I should have known better. I was just browsing the bay and say that Brent Woodside is on this set churning out the same stuff we are all familiar with. Maybe Waterhouse got too much of the blame : How does an competent art editor let these things pass so easily? It's not like we as collectors are asking for much but at $40 per box at least hire some hungry artists willing to prove themselves. Sorry for the rant. The whole "fool me once..." applies here and I take part of the blame.

The 1/1 triple auto of Ford/Lucas/Spielberg has already been pulled though, so that's a bit of a bummer for those hoping to pull it.... One of the single Spielberg autos is on Ebay and it's #ed to 7, so I'm guessing there are 7 each of the single autos. __________________ http://tdastick.deviantart.com/ |

Yeah, there are some solid B&W artist. Some are new and some are regulars. I think I am more pissed since I have pulled an ridiculous amount of the W&W brothers and the art director is willing to use filler that illicits such a response. I don't think I actually hate the guys but when you spend $40 and your return is $1 at most it become worse than Sportscards. Hopefully Blowout will decide to buy all our Waterhouse's and Woodside's for a buck fifty like they did with our worthless GU

I truly pity anyone who ordered this after seeing what has hit ebay so far. I guess the only upside is TOPPS apparently cut production and sketches are now 2 per box, but 2 $0.99 junk sketches isn't much better than 1. I think what may have happened with the IJ releases is there was a shortage of artists who were truly passionate about the subject matter so you get a lot of artists doing the bare minimum required and a few who have some professional pride doing decent work but almost none willing to go all out because they love the subject. For sets like Star Wars, Marvel or DC there are a lot of artists who grew up obsessed with it and will put out truly impressive work because it's personal for them, and in the case of Marvel and DC there may be dreams of someday working for them.

I know my post sounds harsh but I will hold further criticism back until I crack my 20 boxes. Adding an additional sketch is a nice gesture but in some cases 2 is not better than 1. On a positive note there are some newer artists I saw that caught my eye: Don't know their full names but nicks or initials--Agnes, JKM, and Jon Morris(from LOTR2) + the regulars. From the breaks so far it looks like at least one panoramic card per case so despite the 1/1 Triple being gone I still have a shot at one of Joe Corroney's panoramic cards which are awesome. Once the breaks start flowing we'll see if Topps actually learned something from the first two Indy sets. Good Luck with your breaks.
