Default youandme,

Thanks, and welcome to the blowout boards.

That's about what I thought with the sets. I work at a school so they might just become prizes.

Best Always,
Vinny

Seems like the 23rd is pretty solid, right now. It also seems that they've added a lot more sketch cards to the mix. That's what I get from the non-sports forum that talks about it a lot. (sorry no link, I'm at work)

Best to All,
Vinny

Do you think this product is worth a shot? It has a huge following but what worries me is all the added sketch cards. Is Topps overproducing this? I've never done nonsports

The added sketch cards make for a lot of speculation on production. Supposedly there should be a sketch, auto or costume card in each box.

Did some artists make more cards on top of what Topps first ordered or did they pickup more work because many sketches were rejected?

I guess well have to wait and see. I think 1 case is safe to play with but without other parallels, I'm not sure what money can be made on multiple cases. The sets won't do well, it's the inserts that will drive it.

IMHO,
Vinny

Originally TOPPS was aiming for 3000 sketch cards by 30 artists, just from the numbers I've tracked there are over 5600 sketches by close to 50 artists. I'm guessing when all the numbers finally come to light the total will be around 7500 sketches by 50+ artists. I see one of the following 3 scenarios coming to pass:

1- TOPPS has redefined what they considered "limited" to be and will crank up the presses (when TOPPS announced they got the license they made a big deal about how it would be "limited")

2- Sketch cards will be the main insert in a case at 4 or 5 per 8 box case and the autos and costumes will be the tough pulls.

3- We might possibly end up with more than 1 big hit (Sketch/Auto/Costume) per box on average, possibly 10-12 per 8 box case.

Obviously I'm hoping for option 3, which wouldn't be unprecedented. LOTR Evolution was supposed to be 1 sketch per box but just before release TOPPS announced sketches would be 1:14 packs (boxes were 24 packs). Cases for Evolution were under $300 before that announcement, try and find a case under $1000 now.

All the delays have given the artists time to do a second and even a 3rd batch of cards which TOPPS has asked for. Below is an updated list. The first number for each artist is the original number they did, where there is a 2nd or 3rd number those are additional sketch cards they did later. I haven't found the numbers for a few artists yet and I suspect I haven't found every artist on the set yet but the list is probably close.
