Based on every indicator I saw in the past month, I can't say I'm at all surprised.

I really like my new pick up.

Ted, it is cool you painted all your cards! How long would you say you spent on each one roughly?

Sweet! Where'd you land that?

It varied all over the place. I started out penciling them first then switched to going straight to the paints. I was doing 4-5 a night from like 9 til 2, so I guess about an hour on each.

Got the hot packs, pretty happy. Paid $95 for 4 packs, turns out they were retail showing 1:96 odds. Got a black & white Joe Simko and Neil Camera. The two others are nice and I will research. Will post pics later.

Psyched about that Simko, knew what it was right away!

Picked up one of Jeff Zapata's returns on eBay and it arrived today:

Check out the package he sent it in

He must have guessed that I was a Captain America fan by my eBay name.
Very cool of him to do these sketches for me.
He's got a new fan for life in me now!

I think a hobby box is a hobby box and they probably all got randomized. So I would say that no, the good hit is not gone.

Thanks man, a definite PC keeper.

The 4 boxes tonight weren't great as far as sketched go. Did grab a gold and my first Len Brown auto. Will sell those to help out. Will PC the bottom left sketch and maybe the top middle. Now it's time to build sets and clean up my desk in the basement

EDIT, had a few more packs and hit another gold. So, two gold and an auto in four boxes is pretty good to me!

I only know that I checked because I'm naturally curious, because I've been an off-and-on collector of pop culture stuff since the 1960s, and because there are a some of the sketch cards I drew and had to turn in that I wouldn't mind owning myself!

About 18 of my cards have popped up on eBay so far, and I bid on two of them, but lost. One, which I really, REALLY liked (the one where the soldier is beating the snot out of the Martian), was put up as a "buy it now" for $59.99 and was gone before I ever even saw it on sale.

To date, four of my 23 variations have popped up on eBay. And since I received my six "after-market" sketch cards from Topp today, I can say with certainty which of my card variations are still floating around out there and unaccounted for.

Believe it or not, because I was torn as to which six I wanted to keep, I'd forgotten exactly which six I had asked Topps to set aside. The six I got back are:

1.) The centipede destroying Big Ben
2.) The blue spider grabbing the guy in its pincers
3.) The air battle between the USAF and the saucers (my Mom wanted this one)
4.) The color Martian head shot
5.) The A-12 (SR-71 predecessor, which was actually built in 1962) being chased by three saucers
6.) The five saucers approaching the Earth (one in close-up)

What this means is one of my other favorite cards, "Destroying a Cat," is out there somewhere. I also mentioned in an earlier post that I wished I could have kept the sketch card where the soldier is beating the snot out of a Martian. Another one I wanted to keep was the scene with the giant Martian robot looming over a crowd, walking towards the viewer.

I also liked the red beetle attacking the Washington monument, the army of giant worms, the giant praying mantis, the... oh, hell... like I said, it was hard to pick the six I was allowed to keep!

btw, my wife Lark Sudol also did sketch cards for MA (even fewer than I did due to scheduling issues).

so we may be the only husband/wife team on the series!
